MAY 1972

Roommates at Dartmouth and both currently executives of the Southern New England Telephone Company, headquartered in New Haven, Alan McBean '43 (left) and Leo (Bud) Silverstein '43 are running something of a parallel course also in presidential ways. McBean recently was elected president of the YMCA of Greater New Haven and Silverstein is currently president of the Quinnipiac Council, Boy Scouts of America, serving the greater New Haven area. Both are active in the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven, McBean as treasurer and Silverstein as a trustee; and both are past officers of the Dartmouth Club of New Haven, Bud as president from 1964 to 1966 and Alan as vice president from 1965 to 1969. For the Telephone Company, McBean is Secretary and Treasurer and Silverstein is Administrator of Urban Affairs, responsible for "finding the means to utilize our resources in meeting the urban needs in Connecticut." One additional note: as the new president of the YMCA of Greater New Haven, McBean has the help of a certain member of the Central Branch Board of Management—Silverstein.
