The College has reached an agreement with The Monsanto Company to install a combination Astro Turf surface in Nathaniel Leverone Field House, the indoor track and multi-sport practice and recreational facility.

The surfacing project, which will provide a new covering for more than 78,000 square feet of the field house floor, is now in progress and will cost approximately $350,000.

A major portion of these funds has been made available through a gift from Vincent C. Turecamo '37 of New York City.

The synthetic surface, scheduled for use in the early fall, will include a poured polyeurethane recreation surface of 60,000 square feet which will accommodate a 220-yard, flat, six-lane track plus four tennis courts in the infield.

At the west end of the field house (near Memorial Field) will be a permanent section of Astro Turf stadium surface (artificial grass), measuring 17,440 square feet. Also planned is a portable, segmented section of Astro-Turf grass measuring 21,800 square feet which will cover the tennis courts during the fall and provide additional indoor practice area for football and soccer during cold and inclement weather.

"The new surface will give Dartmouth one of the nation's finest indoor athletic facilities," said Seaver Peters '54, director of athletics. "Particularly with the advent of coeducation and year-round operation this fall, we will be able to realize a significant increase in utilization of the field house."
