Top Club Secretary
DECEMBER 1970

H. Flint Ranney '56, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Southern California, was honored as Club Secretary of the Year at the annual fall meeting of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association in Hanover on November 6. Mr. Ranney was not present but the following citation was read at the association dinner:

Few Club Secretaries have come to the job with better qualifications. First you are a great planner. With the complete and somewhat necessary cooperation of your attractive wife, Corky, your children arrived with clockwork precision and now are ages one, two and three. This only partially explains the excellent arrangements made for the Glee Club visit and its most successful concert. You did a "whale of a job." But that could be expected from the author of an article on "whaling" which appeared in the magazine "Historic Nantucket."

You get things accomplished quickly. Your interest in fire engines may account for this willingness to move in at once and finish whatever needs to be done. You are always ready for any emergency, wherever it may come up. Perhaps that explains why you maintain a working fire engine in both Nantucket and California, although it is reported that these are used principally to give rides to neighborhood children.

Communications has been one of your interests since your undergraduate days in the radio station. Your mail order promotion of budding song writers and your former laundromat business may have taken a few people to the cleaners, but there is nothing more sincere and effective than your Club notices and letters to the alumni of Southern California. The percentage of dues payers and the average attendance at the annual meeting and monthly luncheons have increased and the additions to the Club Scholarship Fund have been substantial. Your great communications are in no small way responsible for this progress.

In the Dartmouth tradition we honor you for your valuable service to the College with the Award as Dartmouth Club Secretary of the Year.
