A memorial fund for Professor Francis Gramlich, A.M. '48, Stone Professor of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy, who died last June 4, is being established. Administering the fund is the Philosophy Department.
In a letter to Professor Gramlich's former students, the many who took his "Philosophy of Mind" and later "Philosophy of Human Nature" over a period of 25 years, the Deparment reminds them that "Fran Gramlich had other students as well. He originated and taught for many years a course in management development for personnel of the Bell System. These students of Fran's have generously contributed a considerable sum of money in order to endow a fitting memorial to Fran."
The letter goes on to ask his former college students to join those in the Bell system in support and says the Department plans to offer an annual book prize in Professor Gramlich's name and if possible, an annual lecture by an eminent philosopher which would be called "The Francis W. Gramlich Lecture in the Philosophy of Human Nature." The College has pledged to match all contributions on a one for two basis. Checks should be made payable to Dartmouth College, identified as a contribution to the Francis Gramlich Memorial Fund, and addressed to David Eckels, Office of Development, 101 Crosby Hall, Hanover, N.H. 03755. Gifts will be acknowledged and are tax deductible.
