Dartmouth's swimmers took a 7-1 record into their meet at Yale, a showdown that carried the importance of the opening win over Princeton because a victory (plus a closing win over Cornell) would give the Green at least a share of the Eastern League title for the first time.
Ron Keenhold's team has been moving steadily through the middle of the season. The Green had relatively little trouble with Pennsylvania (67-46) and then belted Springfield, Colgate and Army with little difficulty.
The top performer through the body of the season has been freshman Paul Cane from Greenbrae, Calif., who has been steadily lowering his own record in the 200-yard breaststroke. Heading to Yale, the mark was at 2:13.7 and the prospect for better things are obvious.
