1913's 60th

Our 60th is over and went by too quickly. It was a wonderful occasion, full of fond memories of bygone years. Registration began at twelve noon and eventually our original 1913 reunion registration book showed 36 of us signed, including wives and guests. Our headquarters was the College Hall Lounge and most of us were quartered in Russell Sage. In the afternoon some took the bus tour of the Dartmouth-Hanover area, others attended the class day exercises at the Bema. Some just sat and relaxed and admired Hanover at it's best.

The 1913 cocktail party in the College Lounge livened up the old-timers; aches and pains and other infirmities of old age were forgotten for the time being.

This affair was followed by the 1913 dinner in Thayer Hall. Bob Conant our reunion chairman, did an excellent job of planning and everything went according to schedule. '13ers then paid a visit to the home of President and Mrs. Kemeny who were at home to the graduating dass, alumni, and their guests. Later in the evening many attended the concert given by the Dartmouth Glee Club in Spaulding auditorium. They gave an excellent performance.

Saturday morning 1913 memorial services were held in the White Church, with our own Ben Andrews conducting the service. A tinge of sadness predominated as so many of our classmates have passed on.

Business was transacted quickly at the class meeting. Bill Terry and other class officers were elected unanimously on recomendations by the nominating committee. A vote of thanks was given to our Treas. Bob Conant for his efficient and expert handling of that job. The class picture was taken just before luncheon on the College Hall steps and the ladies stole the show with their colorful ensembles. The '13ers and their guests then had luncheon in the Drake Room at Hopkins Center. Everyone was occupied at all times, some sight seeing, some resting and admiring the scenery of Hanover in June, and others having talk-fests. Again the '13ers assembled in College Hall Lounge for the final cocktail party and then went on to our class dinner at Hovey Grill in Thayer Hall. The dinner was superb thanks to Bob Conant. As a surprise, he had pursuaded his friend AI Foley, Vermont humorist and writer, to be guest speaker. He entertained with witty stories about Vermont and Vermonters.

In the course of the evening a round of applause was given to Bill Dent's daughter, Dr. Cletilde Bowen, highest ranking woman (Colonel) in the U.S. Army and the recipient of many honors. In summary, our 60th and last formal reunion was a great success due the untiring efforts of the reunion committee, and will be long remembered by those lucky enough to be present.

Reunion jottings: Milt Aronowitz, JohnnieRemsen, Clarence Meleney and our president BillTerry win high praise for their work and success in the Alumni Fund drive. Ed Sides, despite his malady, for his fortitude and loyalty, coming all the way from Florida, assisted by his son Bill '40. Carl Shumway, assisted by his two daughters Nancy and Lorna, came up from his home in the Havenwood Apts, Concord, N.H. Stub Stoughton on the way up from Florida was held up in New York for an emergency in his family and couldn't make it.

Flappy summer and please send some news.
