During the weekend of Dartmouth Night and the Penn Game, when the battle cry was "Take Penn in hand," Hanover appeared to be devoid of '25ers, except for SpeedyFleet and Dot, Who were: making their annual visit. They were planning to spend the Christmas 'holidays in England.

At the tent before the Brown game appeared the Ford Wheldens, Larry Leavitts,Bob McKennans, Bud Petrequin, and PeteHaffenreffer, all of whom were weekend guests at Pete's Mt. Hope Farm, and the Bob Pierce family. While his son runs the Chevrolet business, Bob remains busy with the Buick business and travels considerably with an eye toward national interests. At the game we ran into Connie Thompson, the Don Hunts, with a couple of their many grandchildren, the Woody Wilsons, and the Terry McGaughans.

The Harvard game, where the battle cry was "Flush the Johns," was the scene of many widespread tailgate parties. In one far-removed parking lot was the Ford Whelden family of ten, who were joined later by June Chamberlain. The Herb Talbots, including son, Jeff, and wife, and grandson Alan, were late arrivals but luckily found space to park on a grass plot adjoining the roadway. The John Garrods, who sat in what Drue chose to name the "cardiac section," came down from the north country the night before and stayed with the KenNugents. Others were the Line Davises, the Lou Kimballs, accompanied by a bridesmaid of X-years ago, Woody Wilsons, Bill Jen-kinses, Don Hunts (without any grandchildren for a change), the Bob McKennans,Larry Leavitts, and Tubby Washburns.

Pete Haffenreffer has retired as president of Narragansett Brewing Company and a director of Falstaff Brewing Corporation, ending 33 years with the firm which was reactivated by his father after repeal of the 18th amendment. Succeeding him in both positions is his brother Carl '30. They are the third generation of a name which has been synonymous with the brewing industry since 1870. Pete had been president since 1948.

Les King reported just having completed an extended vacation trip to the West Coast in celebration of his 65th birthday, during which he attended a meeting of the Dartmouth Club, of which his son Robert '57 is president, with Walt Baumann. He also conveyed the sad news of the death of Suzanne, wife of Pete Kelsey, to whom the deep sympathy of the class is extended.

We have also to report the sudden passing of Helen Geisel, wife and helpmate of Ted, word of which was passed on by Al Perkins. When notified of her death, Bennett Cerf, board chairman of Random House, who published her children's books, said, "Without hesitation she was one of the most wonderful women I've met in my whole life. I can't think of anyone in this world I have a higher opinion of. We regarded Helen as a worker, a creator, the most unselfish person we've ever known." Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Ted in his bereavement.

A note from Julie Hewitt expressed regret in not having been able to get back to Hanover for the Holy Cross weekend. She closed with, "I hope some day, some way I can get up to Hanover and see all you wonderful '25'ers again."

A card postmarked "Mexico" revealed that Whitey White recently attended a business meeting at Las Vegas and followed it up with a brief pleasure sojourn to Tasco and Acapulco.

Public announcement of the Third Century Fund permits advancing a suggestion which occurred to this writer, based on action which he himself took a year ago, namely, to establish for yourselves a program of giving to the fund spread over a period of four years beginning in 1967. Such a program would create less of a financial strain each year, give you certain tax advantages and, in the case of those who will be retiring during this period, obtain the benefit of matching gifts, which may not be available after retirement. You may embark upon such a program without waiting for a solicitor to call on you.
