Class Officers Weekend
June 1974

Roger Brown '05, secretary, treasurer head agent, and newsletter editor for his class, was here. So were 13 newly elected members of the executive committee for the Class of 1974 and some 260 other class officers ranging between in distance from graduation day.

They came, mostly with their wives, to the annual Class Officers Weekend, May 10 through 12, to review the state of the College, honor their colleagues, and give and accept tips on the management of class affairs - that cement which has over the years bound thousands of men into the remarkable solidarity of the Dartmouth alumni body.

Early arrivals visited classes Friday morning and heard panels of undergraduates and of college officers report in afternoon discussions. After the annual banquet, they gathered in Spaulding Auditorium for the presentation of Alumni Awards and a concert by the Glee Clubs.

Saturday morning the various class officers associations met to discuss common issues, honor their fellows as officers-of-the-year, and elect new slates for 1974-75. The groups joined together late in the morning to hear reports on job placement and career counseling and the status of the 1974 Alumni Fund and to witness J. Michael McGean '49, Secretary of the College, recognize 1953 as Class of the Year for its record 20th-reunion giving and attendance, high percentage of dues payers and magazine subscribers, and other class activities and cite 14 classes for honorable mention.

Following an informal luncheon, many stayed on to visit and wander the campus and, for the most vigorous, to hike up Smarts Mountain for a steak dinner.

The new officers of the various associations are listed at the beginning of the Class Notes section. Recipients of Alumni Awards and Officer-of-the-Year citations are recognized with their Class Notes.
