Here, on the eve of our 45th Reunion, is the last batch of notes for the season. From BeanyThorn the following: "This chap (John) Feltner is really something. He called me recently and I dragged a few matters from him. The cross-country ski race over in Switzerland, the Langlauf, went very well for him and one of his sons. Get this. John says this is a great event in which ten thousand skiers start out from a lake and ski up and down through villages for 42 km, getting much attention in the villages as they go through. Then he tells me his next event is a canoe race down the Susquehanna River from Cooperstown here in New York, again with a son or two and perhaps a thousand paddlers for some 70 miles celebrating an historical event of the Revolution. He won't get to reunion because of too many conflicts." Wow!
Dave Loveland proved his literacy by actually typing out a note to yours truly. Plenty of thirty-oners in and around Naples. Fla., as we have mentioned before. Dave and Bernie Boyle seem to do most of the hosting. Dave and Alice will return to their heatless house in Norwich, Vt., as soon as the climate will allow.
Bill Wilson wrote a book entitled Full Faithand Credit, the story of C. I. T. Financial Corporation from which he has now retired. He says he had a "lot of fun being an author."
From Rolland D. Carlson: "Have finally been accepted for a limited membership to play the famous "Golden Horseshoe" Golf Course of Williamsburg (Va.) It's rated one of the most difficult courses of the USA, a Robert Trent Jones Creation." That reminds me, I fumbled around another Robert Trent Jones creation in St. Croix - the Fountain Valley Golf Course. Hmm.
Bob Caverly says the Rikkolas and the Caverlys will be at the 45th. John Chamberlin retired January 1975 but is keeping his hand in as a consultant. Ralph Charlton has retired from Congoleum Industries after 39 yrs. Willard(Johnny) Johnson attended his retirement party. Joe Choate says "Smile! God loves you."
A long letter from Bob Blocksom: "A few lines to indicate that Yvonne and I are in good health and enjoying life. This past June I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Ben Hardman who contacted me from Bill Nutt's home on Ocean Drive here in Corona del Mar. Had quite a visit with both of them and a bonus was Ben giving one of his books to both Bill and myself. It was entitled Everybody Called him Cedric. Meanwhile, this past March we sold our motor home which Yvonne called 'The Monster.' We had not used it for a couple of years and finally decided to call a halt to maintaining it - what with insurance, licenses, and storage as well as periodically revving the motor. I sort of miss that mode of living. In 1972 we purchased a condo in Indian Wells which is about 15 miles east of Palm Springs. Although it was primarily bought as an investment, we enjoy using the unit occasionally and we have met many interesting people in a similar situation. Life is far from boring."
From John Boermeester: "Sorry that Marion and 1 were unable to be at the fall reunion in Hanover. The reason for absence was the fact that I had to be in Miami to present a 'postretirement' paper to the Society for Actuaries. I retired in July 1975 and have never been so busy. This includes playing some golf with John Benson and Joe Clough. On our way to Miami we visited Bernie and Betty Boyle at their lovely home in Naples overlooking a serene little lake. Bernie is working up to be the senior citizens' golf champ of Naples. We also checked out the Lovelands new home 'on the mountain' at Marco Island. They have a commanding view in all directions, but they hadn't arrived at that time from the North Country."
When you get to the 45th be sure to ask Gert Bettman to tell the story about the time Irv Bettman took piano lessons.
