It was truly a momentous occasion when eleven Thirty-oners joined the 600-plus alumni and wives at the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Club of Boston when President John Dickey introduced President John Kemeny. All who were there were conscious of the great drama as the old doors swung shut on a glorious era for Dartmouth and the new doors swung open on an exciting new era of developing change. JohnBoermeester took notes on those in attendance and will have more details in the newsletter.
If our class members weren't so affluent we would have had a larger gathering, but many of the regulars were taking the sun cure at luxurious southern points.
Ernie Moore keeps forwarding little tidbits and thank goodness, for the news this month is very sparse. Ernie sent an item about Ron Findley being elected president of Loomis-Sayles Canadian and International Fund, Ltd. He has been vice president since 1960.
Got a cute card from George Frankel: "Hi, Rog! Best from Fiji and me." Why would anyone want to go to the Fiji Islands? They probably don't even have color TV and indoor heated swimming pools in their motels!
Dick Holbrook, the record-hawk, writes: "I started a new job January 1. I'm director of Advertising and Public Relations of the Tamarisk Petroleum Corporation which is about to make its presence known in both the oil fields and investment circles. TowerSnow is a director and got me interested. We see a great future for a new concept."
Dick asked me to contact Johnny Johnson about his old 78 records, but his phone is disconnected because he's in Sweden at this time.
Reverend "Jim" McElroy looms as big as life in a large clipping from the "Philadelphia Inquirer." He's talking with the president of the Carpenters' Company of the City and County of Philadelphia. They're making big plans for the 200th anniversary of the first Continental Congress, held in Carpenters' Hall. About 75 people attended the anniversary of the beginning of construction of the Hall, which took place in 1770.
Now - you ask me "what's new?" and I reply, "That's all there is," for the basket is truly empty this month. Please help to rectify the situation.
