Please note two changes in the above masthead. First, by editorial decision the names and addresses of the class treasurers have been eliminated from class notes headings, in the interest of conserving two and one-half pages. Second my secretarial address has again shifted to Captiva, Fla., until June 1, 1978.

Incidentally, speaking of class treasurers, may I urge you to send your class dues to SamCunningham promptly if you haven't already done so. If each of you who contributed to the 1977 Alumni Fund (85.1 per cent of the Class) would pay your class dues, we would have an increase of 18 per cent (from 67 per cent to 85 per cent). This not only would add substantially to the class funds, but would mean close to a 25 per cent increase in the number of class members receiving the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

The weather in the Hanover area during the summer months has been unusually dry, but with three rainy Saturdays in a row since the start of the football season with Princeton September 17, the 1977 Dartmouth team have proved to be good mudders with a 3-0 season to date (October 1). Let's hope that by the time you are reading these notes Dartmouth will have shown its best against the Ivy League for another championship.

New mailing addresses for '33ers, received from official sources, include: William F.Atwood, Apt. 65, 88 Ist Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43201; Donald E. Helmholz Jr., Mayo Clinic, Emeritus Room, Rochester, Minn. 55901; Hunter Hicks, 22 Beach Lagoon Rd., Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29928; Peter P. Mankowski, 27172-6 Calle Caballero, San Juan Capistrano, Calif. 92675; Shepard B. Palmer Jr., P.O. Box 816, Norwich, Conn. 06360; Fred J. Robinson, Pelhamdale Ave., New Rochelle, N.Y. 10801; Jay E. Weidenhamer, Apt. 1107, 17900 Gulf Blvd., Redington Shores, Fla. 33708.

With deep regret we have to report the passing of two more class members; Pete Flood of Antrim, N.H., who died August 23, 1977, and Tony Martin of Tokyo, Japan, who died September 4, 1977. Their obituaries will appear in this or a later issue, Tony's in the form of a eulogy given by Bill Breer '57 at the memorial services for Tony in Tokyo.

The retiring president of the American Bar Association, Jus Stanley, has been recognized for various causes he has championed during his term of office. He would like, for instance, to see the appellate courts have the same right as the U.S. Supreme Court to decide which cases they should hear, so as to help avoid the fact that verdicts are being delayed, since almost every case decided by a lower court is being appealed.

Another objective in our existing system of justice to which Jus has addressed himself is the establishment of a system of informal neighborhood tribunals as a low-overhead means of settling disputes in which the stakes amount to less than lawyers' fees are likely to be. Thirdly, the condition of our prisons should be improved so that the punishment for those convicted is imprisonment, not enduring abuse while imprisoned. These are important goals deserving of the ongoing attention of both the general public and the members of the ABA.

Cutting Johnson, a resident of Norwich, Vt., and a research engineer in the Radiophysics Laboratory, was presented with a Dartmouth, chair by President Kemeny at a recent College service awards ceremony. His 25 years of service to the College were thus recognized.

As you have been reminded by Bill MacCarty, our 45th reunion chairman, in approximately 10 months from your reading of these class notes we will be enjoying the 1933 pre-reunion weekend at Quechee Lakes, Vt., during a special three-day class outing September 22-24, 1978, which is also the weekend of the opening football game of the season against Pennsylvania. It is hoped that as many of you as possibly can will include this in your plans as a forerunner for the 45th reunion in June of 1979. Plan now, and confirm your intentions as early as possible. It promises to be an exciting weekend, and you will be receiving further word of the many preparations already underway.

That's all for November. Here's wishing you and yours a happy Thanksgiving.
