The lights burned bright. She continued to squint, sweat pouring daintily from her brow, beginning the long journey down her chest. "Okay, here is an easy one," he announced. "What is Reggie Jackson's dog's name?" The woman from Vassar grimaced. She had to nail the next two questions, or the wedding was off. Fortunately, she knew her finance's idol, after Professor Starzinger, was Reggie Jackson. "Whitey," she pronounced with confidence. The man from Darien continued to bounce the basketball; she is not bad, he thought. "For 74 out of 99, answer this last one and we are off to Paris! What is the nickname of Walt Frazier's college?" Her heart sank. Basketball. I hate basketball, she thought. I guess the wedding is off.

"I now pronounce you man and wife; you may slam-dunk the glass, che Rabbi stated. As she strode confidently up the aisle, Susan Zadek Mandel said a quiet thanks to Kevin Hoffman. Just as her time had almost expired, he strode into the question booth. Upon seeing his svelte shape she had said, Hello, Saluki, moniker for a slender, swift-footed, keen-eyed hunting dog. As luck would have it, it was the correct answer. Steve Mandel was satisfied and the marriage was actually consummated this June, despite poems to the contrary. The wedding was attended by many Dartmouth grads, including yours truly, Raoul Duke; I'll attempt not to let knowledge of the facts mar my search for truth. Making the trek to Baltimore for the occasion were classmates Tom Castle, Pete Maglathlin, Bill Murphy, Jim Sanger, John Moriarty, Bill Daniel, Drew Rockwell, Bill McLaughlin, Bob Shuman, Marc Farley, and Jerry Widdicombe. Steve's family of Dartmouth grads Steve Sr. '52 and Ned '81 plus Ann, Smith '53, joined in, making hilarious toasts about how Steve was a loving son and loyal brother. It was truly a lovely wedding.

In contrast to the conventional, low-key Mandel wedding, was Bob Shuman's marriage in August. Shu, always an exhibitionist, was wed between games at an Oakland A's twilight double-header. He claims that he wanted the world to know and was really upset by all the attention Ricky Henderson was getting. Jim Bullion was in attendance. Shu is now a lawyer in Palo Alto.

Showing the cat-like quickness of Carney Lansford, Mark Bernfeld dove to his left and grabbed it before it hit the ground the garter, that is. This was the second most significant event that occurred the day Jeff Crowe married Amy Bassell. Looking like a cross between Robert DeNiro and Louie Prima, Bernfeld said, "I was psyched for it, even if it meant jumping off the juke box!" Fortunately, Croweman was able to make his wedding, despite Jeff Ward's desire to re-enact some scenes from Friday the 13th with a ceiling fan the night before. No need to worry, however, since Dr. Fred Seligsen, a noted herpes specialist, was in attendance. Another newly-appointed M.D., Ray Boniface, was more noteworthy for his willingness to leave his date behind with the likes of Rick McLaughlin, Mark Germane, and Peter Leone. Tom Alexander recorded the event for the Westchester social circles, and it is hoped that Lori Boyea can get it published. Other attendees on that beautiful day in Easthampton were Chris Riley, Tom Delanty, Dusty McQueen, Bernie Drury, and Charlie "Soon-to-be Daddy" Kreter.

Although they had only dated for nine years, Bart Dickson decided to take the big plunge with fellow Grosse Pointer Andrea Rounell. Bart, now a doctor and real estate mogul, was ably supported by his former Fayerweather friends, Jon Walton, Bob Hyman, and Otho Kerr '79, as well as his tenants, Winn Craven and Dave Springer '79. The wedding was slightly marred by the arrival of 14 Smith grads who were hunting Jerry Kortekamp, suspected thief of 25 traffic bullets.

Unfortunately, 1,015 of you missed our class picnic this summer on the Cape. Among those who did attend were Todd Anderson, AthenaMoundelexis, Wanda Ryan, Steve Adnopoz, Meg Blakely, and Dave Hov. Meg has finished at B.U. Med School and is working in obstetrics in Danbury, Conn. Athena was on the waiting list at Rutgers Med, and we hope by now has received the nod. Dave is now ashore and will shove off to business school at Wharton this fall.

Several other brief wedding announcements this time. Mark McCubbin married Marta Jo Franklin in Oklahoma City. I hope the airconditioner was operating. Also, Rich Hoeg is engaged to Molly Brewer and is now living in the Princeton area. He will work for R.C.A. of videodisc and Hertz fame.

As the camera pans the two shirts, America is left wondering which one is Tide clean. Who puts on these incredibly bourgeois ads, Dartmouth grads ask each other. Dave Coury and Alvero Saralegui might shed some light on this. Dave is now an account executive, while Al has moved forward in the process, selling space in Cosmopolitan ("I only read it on the beach").

"Due to substandard comparisons to his peers, the Llewellyn Financial Award goes to Jack Kiernan. After managing the Drysdale Fund and the Penn Square account, as well as a stock portfolio including Braniff and Johns Manville, we felt that he was the only viable candidate." Look out, Wall Street, here comes the Ray Floyd of pro formas.

Hey, get to know Jerry Widdicombe this year he is chairing our reunion. This is an incredibly tough task and Jerry is doing us a favor by taking it on. Please follow his directions carefully and we will have as much fun as an SAE guy can provide. I will be giving helpful hints on reunion etiquette throughout the year.
