Have you gazed on naked grandeur when there's nothing else to gaze on, Set pieces and drop-curtain scenes galore,

Big mountains heaved to heaven, which the blinding sunsets blazon, Black canyons where the rapids rip and roar?

Have you camped upon the foothills, have you galloped o'er the ranges, Have you roamed the arid sun-lands through and through?

Have you chummed up with the mesa? Do you know its moods and changes? Then listen to the Wild it's calling you. Robert Service

Listen to and heed the call we did. We filled our packs with Levis, saddle soap, boots, and Kodachrome galore and headed to Jackson Hole, Wyo., to celebrate Kim McConaughy's wedding to Steve Vletas on September 3... and the two weeks which followed. The wedding party came from near, far, and farther to dress in best bib and tucker for the big day. Kim's sister Caryn '81 was the maid of honor. Carol Pelmas and Lindsay Frazier suspended their Dartmouth Medical School operations long enough to join the party. CathyMcGrath, who had earned a master's in policy and administration at Stanford in June, strapped her two-door Honda to her windsurfer and sailed in from the Bay Area. Mac has now returned to Palo Alto to consult with Bain and Company. And Linda Bornhuetter '82, who left her advertising accounts behind in Chicago for a week of Tetonic saddle sores, was the first rider to master a frontal dismount at a full gallop. Fortunately, neither pride nor body were damaged at all.

Geoff Edelson, who arrived via Chicago for Rob Schoder's wedding (see below), stopped in Denver to rendezvous with Debbie Hart. They arrived in Jackson Hole in time enough to float a stretch of the chilling Snake River in inner tubes. Goose bumps receded 12 days later. Following a couple of years' duty on Aspen's slopes, Debbie is back in the books at the University of Colorado's Business School. Radar is slaving toward his master's and Ph.D. in electrical engineering in Philadelphia.

Before the shoot-out in Jackson Hole, BobGarry and I paid a call on the trout of Montana's precious Madison River. Another successful graduate of Don O'Brien's Flyfishing School (East River campus), Bobby G. deftly presents wulffs and hoppers alike. The browns and rainbows stand nary a chance. On our return flight we hooked up with ChrisSawch, who had fished another of Montana's majestic rivers, the Bighorn, that week. Sawchmo works for the Madison Avenue firm of Dancer Fitzgerald on the Gadbois Swim wear account.

Earl Grossman writes that his post-IBM two-year hitch on Vail's ski patrol treated him well, but he has matriculated at the University of Chicago Business School nevertheless. Wouldn't you know.it though, those four pinstripe suits which he traded for six pairs of Vuarnets in October of 1981 were still at the pawn shop this fall. Earl says the best deal with the ski patrol was the six-month vacation plan. In the summer of 1982, mastered the Eskimo roll and kayaked through the Grand Canyon. He also rode his Bicycle from Vail to Fort Lauderdale. The highlight of his summer of 1983 European bike tour was his ascent of the 14,766-foot Matterhorn. He left his bike at the Hornlihutte.

At last report, Holly Raths, who once terrorized Harvard on the hockey rink; was in the Crimson's employ. Now she is developing her legal career both in the field and in the classroom. Holly is a paralegal for the Boston law firm of Bingham, Dana and Gould and is in her second year of study at New England School of Law.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, cont'd: Congratulations are in order for GregShaffer. President McLaughlin has announced that Greg received one of the five Reynolds Scholarships for the 1983-84 academic year. The $10,000 scholarship enables Greg to study Spanish poetry at the University of Madrid this year.

As the Brides Go Tearing By: Congratulations to Muffy Ramsdell who is now Mrs: Catherine Wolstoncroft, and to Victoria Sturgis, who will marry Wilson Stuart Neely '78 in December. As of August, Vicky was planning to teach at the Buckley School. Her partner is an associate of the New York law firm of Simpson, Thacher and Bartlett Pear.

"Phi Delt: Have Wedding Party, Will Travel" reads the sign above the Dartmouth sticker on Geoff Edelson's automobile. Radar ventured to Boston for Alex Frank's marriage to Jane Sandler (Wheaton '81) last spring (see Bride, October 1983, pp. 47-49). Geoff joined Tony Furnary, Bill Helman, and Breck Smith in the wedding party and Brad Koenig and Dave MacAllaster at the bar. Tony is a fourth-year medical student at Jefferson in Philadelphia. Bill and Brad are at Harvard Business School, and Mac is at Tuck. Wedding high-light? "Great band," says Radar, "even Buffalo danced."

Correspondent Edelson later packed his bags for Chicago, where he reported on RobSchoder's marriage to Jeanne Stepan (Holy Cross '81). Joining veterans Edelson, MacAllaster, Frank, and Furnary were Jeff Kuhn,Curt Flight (who flew in from Boston for the festivities as a warm-up for Yaz Day), BillWhite, and Andy Choder '79. Jeanne works for Morgan Stanley. Rob works for IBM.

"My heartiest congratulations,' the letter to Meg Blakey and Bart Littlefield begins, "to you, your hard-working class agents, and generous classmates for setting a new Dartmouth third-year-out Alumni Fund record." Once again, the College recognizes that, rent hikes and inflation notwithstanding, the class of 1980 sets donation records year after year. GREAT! Meg is now at the Harvard Business School and Bart is at Stanford. Perhaps they might find someone to venture capitalize all future class dues.

A happy and healthy autumn to all!
