In what is no doubt his typically understated fashion, Bill Long, my very capable predecessor in this job, writes from his desk as executive director of Russell Reynolds Associates in London that the international recruiting scene continues to gain momentum. He reports his recently having seen LarryToal, who has been relocated by Chase Manhattan Bank from Hong Kong to London, with his wife, Sheila, and family. Bill reports that Larry, a senior vice president at Chase, is now heading up the bank's consumer activities throughout Europe and is in fine form and excited about his new challenge. Bill also mentions that he caught a glimpse of JohnFerries not too long ago, while John was in London on advertising business. John, who resides in Brussels with his wife, Donna, and family, is managing director of Benton and Bowles's European operations.

Jack and Laura Nason moved in early December from their home in Gladwyne, Pa., to a century-and-a-half-old farmhouse, complete with an even older stable and barn, in central Bucks County, Pa. Their new mailing address is Box 748, Buckingham, PA 18912. Jack reports having had a pleasant chat with Jim Swanson in Hanover at the November 1984 meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Council. Jim ably represents the Rocky Mountain region on the Council, and his daughter, Lori, is a member of the class of '87.

Leon Wilson represented Dartmouth at the October 1984 inauguration of Donald E. Walters as president of Montclair State College. Leon, who is an administrative law judge with the state of New Jersey and a 1962 Cornell Law graduate, has a son, Andrew (Rusty), who is a member of the class of '85, and a daughter, Jessica (Jess), who is a prospective member of the class of '91.

For those of us who may not have noticed it, Dave Viscott's new book was reviewed in the December 1984 issue of this magazine. Published last year by Houghton-Mifflin, the book is entitled The Viscott Method: A Revolutionary Program for Self-Analysis and Self-Understanding. According to Dave, his new book adapts for the lay public a new form of shortterm psychotherapy, wherein patients are seen for four visits, each two hours long. Then the recordings of their sessions are replayed, and the patients' defensive styles are examined. As Dave mentioned in our 25th reunion yearbook, he has another book due for publication along about now, a psychiatrist's guide to the managing of business problems, entitled Taking Care of Business. He has also written scientific papers and more than a dozen other books, including The Making of a Psychiatrist; The Language of Feelings;Risking; and How to Live with Another Person. Dave also writes some fiction and directs a company which markets self-help cassettes. He has been preparing a television pilot for his own series.

Roger Waldman is a partner in the New York law firm of Webster and Sheffield. After Dartmouth, Roger completed a three-year tour of duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy before he earned his law degree at Harvard. He was tapped to serve as assistant general counsel of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, 1967-68, and as fulltime consultant to the National Security Council during the first half of 1977. He has two daughters, Jill, age six, and Pam, age two.

Sorry that he doesn't see more 's9s down his way is Charles (Mike) Miller, an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in Charlottesville, Va. After earning his M.B.A. at Harvard in 1961, Mike embarked on a career in banking, which he forsook in 1965 to attend medical school at the University of Virginia. He also interned there from 1969 to 1974. Mike says that he and George Beller '62 have. interviewed Dartmouth applicants in Charlottesville. He also says he recently obtained his private pilot's license. (N.B., ScottPalmer, if you're reading this! This could solve our transportation problem between Washington and Hanover!) Mike's wife, Lorna, a corporate executive, is a graduate of McGill University, and of the Harvard-Radcliffe program in business administration. The Millers have a daughter, Heather, 15, and a son, Sean, 12.

Jim Mueller, whose new address is Lindenberg 60, 1981 Tervuron, Belgium, says his daughter, Carrie, had a good time at the Olympics and is now back in Florence. His younger daughter is heading to Japan for six months before attending university in the United Kingdom. Good to hear from you, Jim!

Myron Lewis is engaged in the private practice of gastroenterology in Memphis. He happily reports that he has been married for some 21 years to his wife, Gail, an R.N. whom he met when she was at Columbia. The Lewises have three daughters, ages 15, 14, and ten. If I had a problem up Myron's alley and lived within rocket-shot of Memphis, guys, I'd look him up! If he flipped through his medical books as he did his undergraduate books, there can't be much important that he doesn't know!

Joel Portugal '58, 1985 Alumni Fund chairman, writes that the goals for the 1985 Alumni Fund have been set at sl2 million (an increase of 15 percent in dollars over last year) and at 70 percent overall participation (an increase of three percent over last year). Ac- cordingly, Joel asks that we send in our gifts or pledges early, increasing our giving by at least 15 percent. He points out that an early gift or pledge saves mailing costs and makes the jobs of our class agents easier.

Your class secretary has replaced his wornout, semi-rural mailbox recently with one of those good, big ones that looks like a barn (red roof, at that)! It will hold a lot of mail! Why not help stuff it with news of yourself, your family, and/or classmates? It takes only a minute or two of your time. Your classmates would enjoy reading about you! Why not doit, while you're thinking about it?
