Kevin McCann 'B7 of Barrie, Ontario, was named the"Most Valuable Player" of the 1984-85 Dartmouth hockey team. McCann, who was the team's leading scorer until he was injured in early February, finished with eight goals and five assists in 17 games. The MVP award, named the Martha M. Phelan Award, is given each year by John V. Phelan '28 in his wife's memory.
Co-captain Bob Jangro 'B5 of Wakefield, Mass., was named the team's "Unsung Hero." Jangro, a forward, recovered from a serious knee injury last summer to play in 24 games this season. The Unsung Hero award is presented by the Friends of Hockey in honor of Bill Smoyer '67.
The John Manser '26 "Award for Achievement" went to sophomore goalie Mark Hoppe of St. Cloud, Minn., who was judged most improved by his teammates. As a freshman, Hoppe played in only four games. This season he was the team's number-one goalie, playing 16 games and posting a 4.58 goals-against average.
Paul O'Hern '88 was voted the Roland C. Booma '30 "Rookie of the Year." O'Hern, a center-wing, played in all 24 games and scared nine points.
Another Friends of Hockey presentation the Philip G. Mclnnis '36 "Award for Sportsmanship, Spirit, and Dedication" : was given to Dan Nugent '86 of Kelowna, British Columbia.
Dartmouth finished the season with a 5-18-1 record.
