All you great folk at mini-reunion last fall will be delighted to know that RalphGriffith married the pretty date he brought, Eleanor Frost. She was his nearby neighbor in Warwick, R.I. They were married on November 27 and went to Naples, Fla., to her condo for a honeymoon and to spend the winter. They will return in June for her 50th reunion at Wellesley College and plan to return to our fall mini-reunion. Ralph has. finally retired from his long association with AAA and finds it difficult "doing nothing." He contacted the Bosworths in Naples and found kinship. Figure this out: Martha's daughter's husband's father, Arnold Chace Sr., was a classmate of Ralph's in Providence until the eighth grade!
Jean and Jim Luttrell's Christmas card showed a lovely sunset view from their home on St. John looking out over a Pillsbury Sound full of sailboats. Their comment: "All this and warm weather too!" They note more cars and tourists, but it is still heaven to them.
Numerous of you made favorable mention of Katie and See's trip to Dartmouth, England, for which we send many thanks. We recommend it. There were also many comments on the fabulous class Rhine River trip which was such a hit and which was written up in "The Mint Bag" by Wilder Pierce, the leader!
Betsy and Bob Ross's card was a woodcut they bought of Linz, Germany, with their names roughed in clever!
Jane Brown from Florida had word from Mort Berkowitz that their daughter Betsy's husband had died; we all send our sympathies to them. Jane said that she was "kidnapped" by the Farwells for lunch one day and was looking forward to Katie and Larry Brooks's report on their trip to the Amazon. Her rebuilt knee is improving slowly, which does not encourage her to embark on long trips she would like to take. She was looking forward to the removal of the cast after 18 long months. She signs herself "Janie of the Wounded Knee."
Olive Tardiff says Joe suffered through the football season with the final straw of Exeter beating Andover!
Some of your Christmas "picture" cards were inspiring: The Fenns backpacking in the wilds, the Dorans with Ben's harem for a background, the Douglasses' lovely big "bed and breakfast" home with barn and lighted Christmas trees, the Fallions with a touch of New Mexico and sombreros, but no note! Newsletter from Lynnand Dana Prescott sounds like a travelogue as they had bought the Eastern Airline year-long passes which took them cross-country several times including to mini-reunion in Hanover and to Puerto Rico with an immense amount of babysitting for their kids inbetween.
We had been concerned that Al Bryant might have overtaxed himself, but their Christmas letter speaks more of Sherry's summer-long fight with hepatitis and spotted fever virus immediately followed by an extended trip to Europe, so we guess they're progressing favorably; at least they did get sensible and stay home for Christmas.
Rug Bug's card says all is well there and they had a good time in Hanover at the Club Officers meeting with BandyDwinnell, Lanny Moore, Bob Mulliken, and Hank Pierce. Esther Mayo pens that Fred "survived" his 70th birthday, and they look forward to our 50th! Fritz andHattie Pansing have moved again to 8015 East Vista Bonita Drive, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. John and Lucy Lindsay are now living in California, after years in the Glen view and Evanston, Ill.,area at 8843 Oakmont Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95405. To get into his real estate profession out there he needs one year of residency but says he might find retirement more enjoyable!
Millie Bunce has been undergoing medical treatment for a rare lung disease, bronchiolitus obliteras. Meanwhile Fred has been a "wife caretaker" as well as overseer of the new home they are building. As of late January their address is Box 133 Kittery Point, ME 03905-0133, phone 207/ 439-2478. Fred Castle is now in La Jolla, Calif., at 8110 El Paso Grand, #307, and Frank Rothchild is at 214 Cedar Avenue, Highland Park, IL 60035.
inHal Putnam, with his usual vigor, is now issuing a newsletter to his legal clients in Florida, recommending, for surance, the "living will." He has been serving as counsel to the Indian River County Hospital District which owns the local hospital. Their studio/office/gallery is at 1835 19th Place in Vero Beach, 305/567- 5870.
Our esteemed former leader Fred Asher calls on occasion to see what the temperature is in Boston. He is in the process of issuing the new Lifetime Nursery bulb catalogue and musing about getting back into citrus and fig trees. (One of his citrus trees bore fruit for us, as did the fig tree!) Meantime he and Fran were heading to California for a few weeks.
The Alumni Fund is on again. We know you will all be involved but please, this year, make a special effort to respond with a contribution, as 100 percent participation is a keystone to our class performance. Not too difficult, as the goal this year is same as last: $107,000.
