Notes from Bob Chittin and Bill Thompson brought the sad news of another classmate lost—Nate Ward. Nate apparently suffered from emphysema, but quickly succumbed to a "blood condition related to platelets." A proper obit will follow in a subsequent issue of this magazine. Meantime, our sympathy goes out to his family
In a fit of weakness your secretary fled a small portion of a New England winter and traveled to Florida to see if it was true what the aficionados of that famous state claim. In Sarasota we ran into class president Dick Rugen, who, with wife Peg, had obviously settled in for a season of sand and suntan, interlaced with tennis and Red Sox games. Next door were Frank and Joann White, seeking refuge from winter in Atlanta. Both fellows are retired and love it. Wally and Barbara Farr have a condo up the street on Longboat Key, where they go to avoid a real winter, that Hanover experience which we've all known.
Allen Dingwall, late of Dartmouth's top management echelon, also was seeking refuge from zero weather in the Upper Valley. In a note to Rugen he reported that he was wintering in "wrinkle city" (Fort Lauderdale) and "fit right in." A couple of days later we had lunch with Al and Bobbie Britton in Naples. With all these familiar faces south of the border, one could wonder who was home minding the store.
Charlie Hunt called in to report that things are looking up some in the farm community. "Every once in a while I see a cement truck go down the road, so someone is building for the future again. It's mostly the poor operators who get into trouble. My boys seem to make money each year, although I do tell them what to do now and again." As for Charlie himself, he's ready to pay his taxes, "Uncle Sam needs his share," and he gets around in his electric cart. After 24 years on the local hospital board, he's ready to give someone else a chance.
Two more '42 names for which we have no addresses are Ed Leslie and Sam Markell. Will you two fellows please borrow a pen and tell us (Alumni Affairs Office, Hanover, N.H. 03755) where you are?
