President Buol Hinman reported on the picnic in Florida during March. This was arranged by the class of 1945, primarily for that class and '44 and '46. Buol attended along with Bob and Jackie Hooper, Tom and Donna Montgomery and A1 "Monk"Martin and Marg Goddard. Good time had by all, I'm told. Back up north spoke with Nort Virgien, who lives in Avon, Conn. Long retired from his real estate business (10 years now). Has a place on Longboat Key, Fla., and spends winters there. Finds time for a bit of tennis. Also in Connecticut, found Tom Cohn over in Norwalk. He and Mary on the move. They had just returned from an Elderhostel tour, Natchez to New Orleans on a real Mississippi River boat. I asked why not "Natchez to Mobile, Memphis to St. Joe, wherever the four winds flow"? Okay class, what song is that from? And just to keep busy Tom is teaching a couple of young people in the local mentor program. Further up north, South Burlington, Vt., I found Wilbur "Bill" Bull. Bill taught high school chemistry and biology, first in Manchester, Vt., then on up to the Burlington area. You can see he didn't stray far from the ski trails. You will recall Bill was one of our finest skiers. Wife Barbara an avid skier too. For added thrills Bill goes out and picks up cars for the Hertz people, legally, of course. And is another '46er who plays tennis. Must be a great game—so many of you play it. "Anyone for tennis?" Second quiz of the day. What great actor said it—and in what stage play? Probably only Rick Kelly knows the answer. Keeping up on religion, called our own Rev. DonFitzsimmons. Unable to talk to His Grace because he was tutoring some high school student in mathematics. Don does this on an on-going basis and as a corporal work of mercy, not for pay. Wife Mary Lou says Don went back to school to learn math. Though retired (20 years a Navy chaplain) he still subs at the local churches and recent- ly was elected treasurer of the New England Chapter of Military Chaplains Association.

Spoke to the "Great One." That being our head agent Tom Adams. As usual, at this time of the year (March) he despairs, says we'll never make it, and all sorts of laments. Our goal is $160,000. We have about half of that and I've assured Tom that '46 will come through—as always. I regret to tell you that I have received a notice that Paul S. Whitescarver died.
