As the class of 1991 takes shape, minority admissions are up and the male-female ratio is disappointing, according to Dean of Admissions Al Quirk. Of the 1,060 students who have indicated they will matriculate here in the fall, 18 percent are minoritiesan increase of three percent over last year. The breakdown for minorities is seven percent black, two percent Hispanic, nearly three percent Native American, and six percent Asian-American. Another three percent will be foreign students.
Thirty-eight percent of the class of '91 will be women, a percentage similar to recent years but lower than the 40 percent peak reached by the class of 'B7. Quirk said that as the pool of students applying to the nation's colleges reaches 50 percent male and 50 percent female, it is "logical" that by 1990 the incoming freshman class will be closer to 50 percent women.
