The dates—October 9-11; the placeWest Leb's Sheraton North Country Innthe occasion—the 1987 mini-reunion of the Dartmouth class of 1941, featuring a football game with Holy Cross. This ought to be but a reminder, the following word from Bob Tepper, who chairs these affairs, and lucky are the ones who can enjoy this kind of a Hanover holiday in the midst of colorful foliage. You will try to make it, won't you? (Deadline for football tickets is September

I last attended to this column way back in. April, for the summer DAM, and now, in mid-July, I have some catching up to do with less room in which to do it. The latter stems from Class Officers Weekend at the beginning of May when, among other things, secretaries had their word limits reduced, mine from 800 to 500. The weekend was another good one, by the way, shared by Provost, Tepper, Winship, and Broberg. Dickie and I had to make an early departure and therefore missed a get-together at the Hotaling home when Art Hillis, new head class agent for the Alumni Fund and a recent addition to the Hanover scene, was also present.

It is my task, unpleasurably, to report the tolling of the bell for Buzz Willis and BobThomas. Obituaries will follow in DAM, written respectively by Jupe Lewis and CarlKrogh, who informed me of these losses.

Other communications received include a note from Martha, widow of Bill Head, expressing her appreciation for the book that is now on a shelf of the Dartmouth College Library as a gift from the class in memory of Bill. Jack Larigan, writing from Leawood, Kans., was "surprised" to read that the College had inquired of his where-abouts; he has been getting his share of mailings right along. Jack and Jean have had 45 years of togetherness, adding to their family tree two sons, a daughter, and five grandchildren. Jack packed it in with St. Regis Paper four years ago, after 37 years with the company, and retirement is divided among Kansas City, Michigan and Honda. Bob Harvey enclosed a cutting from the Hartford Courant that reports its fifth annual awards for "outstanding volunteer efforts," including one to RobbinsBarstow for serving as "executive director of the Cetacean Society, a non-profit international organization dedicated to protecting and preserving whales, porpoises and dolphins." Word from Dan Libby, out of Harwich on Cape Cod, about "good health, surrounded by grandchildren, a loving wife (first and only), golfing, boating, fishing, flying, shell fishing, lifting the cup (often) in good fellowship—life is sweet, to say the least."All right! (Speaking of grandchildren, Brooke Larson and Carter Bancroft added one to my list when Devon took a breath on the 5th of July.) Last of the letters at hand is one from Ed Larner about his observations during the past two years as a member of the Alumni Council"a dedicated body; attempting to fully present the views of various diverse segments of Dartmouth, i.e., the faculty, the student body, the alumni and the administration." As of June 4, Ed writes that "there are no reliable reports . . . which portray Dartmouth as less than the great college it is." Peace and Joy.
