Judicial overhaul
SEPTEMBER 1987

In the midst of a controversy over administrative sanctions on fraternities, the Trustees have voted to modify the College's disciplinary system. Among the major revisions:

• A reduction in the size of the Committee on Standards (COS)—Dartmouth's equivalent of a judiciary.

• A rules revision that allows students to plead guilty and avoid a COS hearing.

• Cases not referred to the COS will be heard by an associate dean who now has the power to impose a penalty. Previously a dean could only reprimand a student.

More than 40 Dartmouth associates loanedthe museum 120 pieces from their personal collections for this special exhibit. From Titian to Sargent opens September 12 and runs through November 1.
