Dartmouth Night and glorious victory over Harvard are upon us once more, and, with a little good fortune, it should be a wonderful weekend. After our trip to Oregon in June, we heard from Cy and Becky Field that, during July, despite the drought elsewhere in the country, their crop of raspberries was so abundant they were picking them twice a day. Some geologists have all the luck!

Spent about three all-too-short weeks on Nantucket in July. Briefly saw Flint andCorky Ranney, both of whom continue to be active in the life of that community. Aside from his work in real estate, Flint has served for the past several years as president of the Nantucket Historical Association, and both he and Corky have been active advocates of improved public education on the island.

On our return, Anne and I made a brief stop in Wilton, Conn., to make preparations for the wedding of son Jeff '84 to Hilary Gerlin in September. Spent a delightful evening and had an excellent dinner with Clemand Anne Malin in neighboring Weston.

Word has recently been received that we have an aspirant to political office in New Hampshire in none other than Nils Larson, who has announced for a seat in the state House of Representatives. Nils owns the Whip-O-Will Motel and Cottages of Newfound Lake and currently chairs both the Newfound Area School Board and the legislative committee of the state's School Boards Association. He also serves as chairman of the Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment. Good luck, Nils.

Just before our last issue went to press, Flint Ranney noted in WWW he had heard from Harry Ward Bailey II that reports of his death, like those of Mark Twain's, had been greatly exaggerated. I immediately called the DAM editors to pull the alreadyprepared obit and am delighted to welcome Harry back, as it were.

Dick Zock recently sent photos of BillBeagle's wedding in May to "the lovely Melinda (of Orinda)," including shots of Lee Gammill (who was there, Zock says, "to ensure that Bill was re-deflowered properly"), Pete Zischke '52, and Zock himself, who reported on a "great reception and lots of Dartmouth folks." Dick also said he'd heard from Len Clark, who "called to say he was passing through enroute to the Bohemian Grove," and that, for Tom Rosenwald, whose arrival was imminent, he had hired two dwarfs to go to the airport "to make sure we don't miss him."

By way of old business, Zock noted having seen Tom and Abby Knott over a year ago when they "came out here to see their kids and host a party for folks not seen for many years. Ran into Bill Miles while there, who, as usual, sent me scurrying for my dictionary and a dog-eared copy of NobleHouse."

Did anyone else catch former Treasury Secretary William E. Simon's provocative article, "To Reopen the American Mind," in the July 8 Wall Street Journal? It might be worth your while to look it up.
