Our mini reunion started Thursday, September 16 with the class executive committee meeting in Reed Hall. Present were: Leavitt, Hunt, Sleigh, Boies, Newton,White, Blodgett, Montgomery, Tanzer, and Fran Zahm. Our president, Curt Abel, was unable to attend due to a back injury which kept him immobile at his summer home in Greensboro, Vt., so vice president Hunt presided. In addition to the good job by head agent Larry Leavitt on the AJumni Fund, previously sent to you, Bob Borwell reported two bequests totaling $1,577,775, as well as life income trusts of $34,284. KenMontgomery reported on the scholarship program which he and Harle established. Five of the students selected by the Admissions Office, all of them Phi Beta Kappa, graduated. One, Karen Eggleston, received the highest ranking in the senior class and was class valedictorian. Montgomery House has attracted outstanding scholars to occupy the house and share their knowledge and expertise with the students. Dinner at the Inn brought additional class members, wives, and friends: Terry and MaryMcGaughan, Dris Huberth Schriver,Harle Montgomery, Betty Sleigh, Bobbie White, Corinne Kennedy, VelmaTanzer, Gertrude Newton, BarbaraHunt, and Louise Lane.
At the Alumni Fund meeting in Hanover in September, our head agent Larry Leavitt was among those receiving the Lawrence G. Leavitt Memorial Award in recognition of his Alumni Fund record over the years.
Nort and Panchita Canfield are living a quiet life in Miami, Fla., but with too many responsibilities there to get away to visit friends. His book on migraine is coming along slowly; it may be out next spring. Phil O'Connell announced his marriage July 27 to Mrs. Heber McFarland in Kilmihil, County Claire, Ireland. Pete Haffenreffer reports that he is mending well from his triple-by-pass but still has to pace himself, which explains his regretful absence from our mini-reunion.
