In late September, I did an exciting thing; I spent a Monday and Tuesday at a Thayer School seminar. Quite different from the weekend or summer visit; I saw the students in dorms, walking the campus, heard the Baker Tower bells, ate in Thayer Hall. In a word, it was delightful; something we could all enjoy.

Retirements seem always to be exciting changes. A few of the notices I've received involve classmates with exciting, fast-moving past involvements, and we wish them well and continued interest in the business world.

GTE sold U.S. Sprint to United Telecom, and president Bob Snedaker selected early retirement. Bob came from United Telecom as a vice chairman, in 1987, to take over U.S. Sprint, and cut nine-figure losses and solved other problems. It appears the firm is on its way towards profitability, but industry comment is that the retirement of Mr. Snedaker does not bode well for the firm's future. But there are other things to do, right, Bob?

Roland Routhier, senior VP at Texaco, decided to take early retirement. This should cut down on the number of moves Rocky and wife need to make, and should allow time to catch up on things in Stamford, Conn.

What is this "early" retirement anyway? At our age we deserve the chance to change the routine a bit. We recall Bill Hallager retiring two or three years ago from Texaco, and moving with Jean to Lincoln, N.H., where Bill is now totally immersed in the Loon Mt. ski resort management, having more fun than ever.

Talk about fun: Larry Goodman married Sachiko Bauer in early September, and they are living in Greenwich, Conn. Larry still runs Armond Shops, which has HQ in New Jersey. Best wishes to them.

Gerry Phillips writes that life is exciting. He resigned from his law partnership, and is senior VP for American Multi-Cinema. He and Fran will remain in the L.A. area of California, in a newly acquired condo. Gerald will expand the firm's operations worldwide: United Kingdom, the Orient, and Europe. Gerry is a top authority on the subject of entertainment and sports law.

Joe Eisaman, Beverly Hills, Calif., is a constant informer. Joe and Bob Dodson exchanged letters this summer; Bob is on duty in Morocco which he says is beautiful, just like California with a French flavor. Bob's wife, Robbie, stays in New York, and had the fortune to have dinner with Al andLiz Colton, who were enroute to England for. a brief vacation. A fine visit, Robbie wrote, and A1 and Liz were in fine humor. Al can be reached at his Salt Lake City home. We hope they avoided the recent forest fire encroachment. It's always nice to hear from Al, even though roundabout. As our class valedictorian, a practicing lawyer and an Episcopal priest, you have had a lot to give our class and your friends. We hope to hear more from you, we're enriched when we do.
