The saying is, "God's mill grinds slow, but sure." Perhaps so, but what about time? Here it is the first of October and it seems as if June had just gone by. Where did July and August go? And September? We turn around and an hour has passed, a second turn and another month has gone by. So on in geometric progression! That is life, especially as we grow older.
This article was started on Monday, September 27, a miserable day for everything. TheDartmouth gives a brief account of each day's weather at the bottom of a column. This is what appeared that slumgudgeous day: "STAY INSIDE. Today's weather will be cloudy, cool, drizzly, gray, rainy, wet, grim, ugly, and in the 60's." How fitting, and after a beautiful Sunday!
Phil Evans, who came out of the hospital to come to our reunion and went back in afterwards, is still under a doctor's care, but has improved in health. In a phone call from him, his voice was much stronger and more clear than it had been for many years.
We also received a nice note from Helen Baxter informing us that Slats had been in a nursing home for two years. Here are some parts of her letter. "So, so sorry we could not make the 65th. We had such good times over the years at all the reunions 'happy, happy' days. I miss everybody and wish we could do it all over again." So do many of us wish we might.
A pleasant Thanksgiving to all
