Please note my winter change of address at the head of this column. Another winter change you may want to record for possible future reference is that of Albert L. Gibney, now at 238 Southhampton Drive, South, Plantation Country & Golf Club, Venice, Fla 33595 (813/497-1782). Al and Jane will be on location—off and on—until the middle of April.
During the Harvard weekend I got a phone call from some Dartmouth folks who were trying to locate Ted and Sheila Dearborn. I found, after a bit of sleuthing, that over a year ago the Dearborns deserted their longtime Wellesley abode and settled down in a non-leaf-raking condominium accommodation in Newton (8 Town House Drive, Newtonville, MA 02160-1935). And then, being free of all those house-related chores, they took off for the Cup Races in Australia. (Funny, Charlie and FaithBrooks didn't report on seeing them there!)
Out of some 44 letters sent out to invite classmates to the Mellor affair after the Penn game, I received a note from Bill Gray sending regrets because surgery early in November would ground him for the whole month. (He and his brother Dave '39 even had to cancel out on the New York-Columbia festivities.) At Thanksgiving, when in the D.C. area, I checked on Bill and found him well and in great spirits.
Unfortunately, many of the meager reports that reach me deal with heart attacks, by-pass surgery, pacemakers, prostate problems, and the like. Among some well on the mend or hanging in there are BobFernald, Barry Sullivan, and Brew Towne.
I must encourage all of you to take care of yourselves and look after your health because we need all classmates for our 55 th in 1991—not to mention a full report on the PICEA GLAUCA 'CONICA' at our 60th.
Also while in Washington I chatted with Bill Minsch (too cold, wet, and little time for a round of golf). His big excitement was that Mike, who graduated from the University of Colorado last August, had just been accepted in to the financial house of J.P. Morgan, effective December 14. It is anticipated that some of his training will be at Tuck.
Not being content to sit back in retirement, Lou Benezet writes that he has gone back to work as a consultant in Connecticut; and out in Cincinnati Walter Beinhart reports that he is still doing volunteer work at the Cincinnati Zoo and helps with handicapped and retarded bowlers. Shades of his undergraduate years, Walt still plays a lot of bridge, lawn bowls, and enjoys candle-pin bowling.
From a recent issue of Tithe, Brad Chase,Bill Crangle, and Ed Higbee and wives plan to be at The Balsams, Dixville Notch, N.H., from February 28 to March 4, and would happy to have others join them for some invigorating outdoor activities.
And from the snow to the sun belt, plans are well under way for a repeat performance at the Babcock Ranch in Punta Gorda, Fla., sometime in March. (Bill Spring please note.) Bob Fernald and Babo Babcock will have worked out the details, but give me a call if you have any questions.
