On January 9 Dartmouth dedicated the new 2,100-seat Leede Arena in the Berry Sports Center with some speeches and a men's varsity basketball victory over Harvard, 66-58. A pre-season favorite for the Ivy title, the team put a smile on Ed Leede's face as our redoubtable physics major and graduate of Harvard Business School modestly accepted the applause of a soldout crowd.

Ed has been living in Midland, Tex., for many years and operating Leede Exploration Co. Margaret and he have five children, Tom 'BO, Michael '81, John, Kathleen '85, and Peter.

The fourth-highest scorer in Dartmouth basketball history, Ed subsequently played two seasons with the Boston Celtics, 1949-50 and 1950-51. Today his physical exercise comes from squash and tennis.

The Dartmouth family—and particularly the class of 1949—honors the Leede family for their spectacular gift to the College.

Almost the shirt off his back. At the Leede Arena dedication President Freedman presented Ed Leede with this memento. The numerals represent Ed's class; he actually wore number 8 in his high-scoring varsity days.
