Here's a sequel to Dick Lyman's tale of meeting one of Ted Spetnagel's boys in the woods at camp Hayo-Went-Ta, reported a few months back. Tony Dingman was returning to work in Raleigh, N.C., after supper one cold night not long ago. He picked up a collegiate-looking hitchhiker who introduced himself as Greg Cusick and who subsequently mentioned he was teaching and going for a master's at North Carolina State. According to Tony, "I gave him all sorts of grief about teaching, since I'm an ex-teacher myself. I got the impression his father had gone to college and asked him where. He said, 'Dartmouth.' I suddenly made the connection and replied, 'Gee willikers, class of '57, John.' Evidently Greg calls home once in a while, and I received a neat letter from John just the other day." John Cusick works in Germany for AT&T, archrival of Northern Telecom for whom Tony writes technical documentation for telephone switching equipment. (Actually, Tony didn't say exactly gee willikers, but you get the general idea.)
After leaving Dartmouth, Bob got a master's in geology at Stanford and spent about ten years in petroleum exploration. Since then he has been a highly entrepreneurial consultant in engineering and earth science. About a year ago he moved down from Alaska to expand the Houston office of lias consulting firm that specializes in oil, mining, utilities, and hazardous waste disposal.
Ned Roesler recalled that McCollom got married during our freshman year and successfully defied conventional medical/athletic wisdom of the 'sos by setting some school swimming record the day after returning from his honeymoon. Bob characterized his time in Hanover as enjoyable but strenuous, juggling the multiple roles of husband, father of two kids, holder of a full-time job, student, member of the swimming team, and Theta Delt brother.
While on the subject of early class achievements, let us acknowledge another Ball and Chain Club member and former sandwiches-and-milk purveyor, Dick Longabaugh. Now a psychologist at Brown University and grandfather twice over, Dick appears to have the strongest claim to being our most senior dad, thanks to arrival of a son on May 3,1954. Class baby Ricky is now an engineer in San Diego.
A vore sante! When Prof. Laurence Radway of the government department shepherds undergraduates to the off-campus program at the London School of Economics the group always gets wonderful cooperation from alumni abroad. Recently that included a trip to NATO headquarters arranged by Robert Grey '57, with SHAPE in Brussels, and a dinner hosted by John Ferries '59, head of the Brussels office of DMB&B advertising agency. Shown, from left, are Ferries, Adam Lehman '89, David Clark '88 Todd Ecklr '90 Peter Mac Donald '89.
