Everything in Hanover is not going to Harvard in a hand basket, contrary to reports in the Wall Street Journal and other reviews. Our man on the Alumni Council scene, Bill Whaley, reports from the latest Council meeting in December 1988 that the College (university?) is showing positive signs on a number of fronts. In the residential life area, the administration and the student body are discussing increased policy input by students; the new dean of residential life (Holly Sateia) shows enthusiasm, interest, and great ideas regarding social alternatives to the scaledBack Greek system and other pending issues. Bill also feels that the state of Dartmouth athletics is improving rapidly: "I honestly believe that the president, the administration, the admissions office, and the dean's office have all made a commitment to improving the possibility that scholar athletes can be recruited to Dartmouth. The football team finished on an upbeat note, the basketball team is doing well, and the hockey team is encouraged by the recruiting." By the way, one way for alumni to positively assist Dartmouth athletics is to contribute to the Dartmouth Athletic Sponsors Program ... all donations are used to sponsor athletes' trips to Hanover. Check with the College for more details.
On the business front, Al Priaulx, president of Resource Media Inc. (New York), announced the acquisition of two additional data bases: "National Radio Publicity Outlets" and "All TV Publicity Outlets-Nationwide." Al's firm now offers the media industry's most extensive listings of programming and personnel information to more than 10,500 radio and television stations, cable systems, networks, and media syndicators nationwide. Al and his wife, Jacqueline, data-out in New York City.
As most of you know, the majority of our class will be facing the big 50 mark in 1990, and we would like to suitably celebrate this quirk of the calendar with some sort of class bash. Any ideas should be sent along to Tom Komarek on the green class note cards.
Also, our oldest son, Pat, graduates from Dartmouth on June 11; I think it might be in order for all '62s in the same boat to gather sometime that weekend and burn tuition bills. Let me know if there is sufficient interest and time to squeeze in something special.
