John A. Gambling '51 is a New York institution. And while the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission hasn't declared him an historic site yet, the Guinness Book of World Records recently noted the record-setting 20,000 th broadcast of "Rambling with Gambling." For almost two-thirds of a century the morning radio show on WOR has entertained and informed millions. It started with John's father, John B. Gambling, in 1925 when radio was young and "drive time" hadn't been invented. Today John's son, John R. Gambling, works on air with his father. The three generations could turn into four someday, John R. has eight-year-old twin sons Andrew John and Bradley John. (It is believed that there are some Gamblings not named John John A.'s wife Sally and daughters Ann and Sarah Jane, for example.)

Recently we asked John A. what it's like to be an institution. His answer: "Well, don't forget I inherited this institution. My father did it for 34 years and I've only been at it for 30. Anyway, I still put on my pants one leg at a time just like any other institution."
