Ann Huebner seeks the keys to moral reasoning.

DURING HER SENIOR year Ann Huebner '89 survived an earthquake, bombwielding terrorists on an airplane, and being blown out of her chair in a hotel room by an explosion in the valley below (more terrorists). All of this contrasts ironically with the scholarly mission that brought her in contact with these calamities: researching moral development in Buddhist monks in India and Nepal.

Since her return, Ann has continued to pursue the implications of her research even after graduating from the College. She has co-authored two articles on moral reasoning with Professor Andrew Garrod of the education department. Garrod presented on their work at an international conference in Poland, and the two of them have presented on it at various American conferences.

But don't expect to find Ann in Hanover. She has just left for Oxford University to study Buddhist languages, including Sanskrit. This latest venture was made possible when Ann's work won her the prestigious Keasbey Award, a Philadelphia-based scholarship which offers its recipient the opportunity to study at England's best universities. The award is similar to the Rhodes Scholarship in its selectivity and its funding, and is indicative of good Karma indeed.

Ann Huebner conducted extensive interviews withBuddhist monks.
