Well, gang, winter in Ankara has settled in. The coal heaters have started, the air is getting thicker and blacker, and there is even more fresh snow on the ground! It's unusual for early winter, and especially two or three inches at one time. But it does make a noisy city seem very quiet, traffic really thins out (thank goodnees), people are attempting to navigate the icy streets without a lot of success, and the park by my house is full of kids trying to make the perfect snowball. And it's probably destined for me, as I am about to make a foray out into the park myself... also to make the perfect snowball!

Not a whole lot of news to report this time around. I did catch an announcement in a Canadian mining rag about GerryCarlson, who received his Ph.D. in geology while the rest of us were getting our A.B. way back when. Gerry presently lives in Vancouver, B.C., with his wife, Dorall, and two lovely (and lively, as I recall!) children. This summer he was appointed president and chief operating officer of Gulf International Minerals Ltd. and Inel Resources Ltd. In addition, Gerry manages to find time to be an adjunct professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of British Columbia.

I got a note from Marty Grapes Benson, who wrote from Sterling, 111, where she and her husband, John '79, have settled after a move from Minneapolis. Marty wrote about being "retired" from the world of finance, but then she added that they had just given

birth to their third daughter, Maggie, in November Molly is four and Sarah is three somehow, I fail to see the relationship between three kids and "retirement." In any case, the Benson family seems to be enjoying life in America's Heartland. Hi to John, whom I have not seen since third floor Streeter days!

Jme Kirrstetter Ingram wrote in to the wilds of Turkey (my office) to let me know that she married Jeff Ingram in October in Phiiadephia. Jane and Jeff had a great time on their honeymoon to Australia (gee, what ever happened to those traditional honey moons to Niagara Falls?) after leaving a funhlled reception and a group of revelers who included: Jill Eilertsen Rogers and husband, Gary '77, Lisa Miles McNamara and husband, Frank '77, Amy Simon Berg, ElinPeterson Sullivan and husband, Mark 'BO, Kathy Maher, Karen Sawyer, Kathy Blauveit Tremmel '78, and Mark Robinson.
