Roused from the post series slump by the ever increasing efficacy of trusty six shooters in the hands of Wyatt Earp, Matt Dillon, et al., we hasten to report on the latest (and some not so late) Dartmouth doings. The big event subsequent to our last report was the annual picnic, held this year on Friday, August 16, at the cabin owned by Johnny Willetts '40 and Buddy Luedke '34 and located precariously high atop one of the moraines in the heart of the beautiful Kettle Moraine area some short distance west of Milwaukee. (Thanks to the steady vision and complete control of our traffic and safety adviser, Ted Hartshorn Jr. '54, these precipitous heights were easily negotiated by one and almost all.) The undergrads luckily eked out a 27 to 2 victory in an abbreviated 7 inning softball game. This new crop of kids just doesn't have the respect for their elders that we had back in our day. Following the game charcoal broiled steaks, french fried shrimp, and all the fixings were cooked, served, and quickly devoured. The evening was topped off by singing, dancing, etc., around a giant bonfire. The picnic was directed by Casey McKibben '51. (We all wondered why he worked so assiduously at his job until we discovered that the midwest's cosiest nudist colony abutted the cabin property on the south.) The two gorgeous Hawaiian dancers were played by Donna McKibben '51 and Ma Meyer '33. The calypso singer was played by Jimmy Mueller '59. Music was provided by Frances and her Germantown Five. The fine time had by all was produced by the Dartmouth spirit and fellowship.
We had our baseball outing on Friday night, June 21. It was Philadelphia v. Milwaukee. Frankly, the game was so long ago that we can't for the life of us remember who pitched or who won. And, as a matter of fact, as things turned out, who really cares. We do, however, recall that we had a good pre-game dinner at the Boulevard Inn and spent a very enjoyable evening. Bill Trump '46, as usual, provided us with an excellent block of tickets for the game.
The golf stag was held out at the Port Washington Country Club on Wednesday, September 25. More of the non-Milwaukee alumni ought to make this event. The country club is located north of Port Washington and is easily accessible. Moreover, a good time is always had by all.
The enrollment committee is going along at full steam under the very able leadership of Bill Trump '46, 502 East Spooner Road, Milwaukee. To be successful, however, enrollment is a job for each and every alumnus in the state. A small committee, no matter how active, can't begin to cover each high school in Wisconsin. Dartmouth must rely on each of us to seek out and interest the type of boy Dartmouth wants. If any of you have a line on any such boys, please let Bill know promptly so that the proper informa- tion and applications can be gotten to the boy in time.
Save Friday noon, December 27, for the annual undergraduate luncheon. It will be held at the University Club in Milwaukee. We feel that this is the outstanding event that we put on each year. Don't miss it. You will receive further details by mail.
Don't forget the weekly luncheons at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, 1700 North Lincoln Memorial Drive, each Wednesday noon.
