December 1941. 50 years ago. How can we forget? December 4: US-Japan crisis looms. December 5 Japanese answer to Roosevelt fails to ease tension. December 7: While we sleep, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor and immediately declare war on us. Where were you when you got the news? Will you ever forget? On December 8 we declare war on the Axis powers.

Dale Bartholomew is elected class president; Bob Dewey, VP; Proc Page, secretary; Ted Arico, treasurer; and John Corwith, BudDutton, Chick Emslie, Bob Kirk, Ben Page,Bill Parmer, and Joe Wilder as executive members fill out the elected slate.

Ralph Twining completes a two-year Hanover sewer mapping project. Petition calls for degrees for seniors called for Selective Service.

The Nazis pull back from Moscow; the Nips invade Luzon. Harry Jacobs is chosen editor of the Dartmouth Out of Doors. On December 11 Germany and Italy declare war on us.

Sidney Smith dies of incurable nephritis. Jerry Tallmer and Alex Fanelli enlist in the army. Post-Christmas vacations are cancelled and the year is telescoped to have May 10 graduation. And on December 14 Dave Heald marries Jane Winey.

on, and maybe when you read this in December we will have won another Ivy League Championship. (It's possible!)

But let's move on to some really important things, like our 50th Reunion, our 50th Reunion Book, and certainly the most important, our 50th Reunion Gift to the College. These are the class's BIG three concerns, and they were discussed in depth during the class meeting on October 11, which 34 classmates attended.

I can report that Dave Heald has our 50th Reunion weekend 99 percent planned and locked up, that Alex Fanelli has put the 50th Reunion Book in the hands of the printer...

and that now we must concentrate on what is now our one concern: The 50th Reunion Gift to the College. At the meeting Jim O'Mara,Bob Strasenburgh, Jim Ingersoll and Warren Kreter collectively reported that we have $300,000 in pledges from 22 members of the class... a giant step toward our $800,000 goal and a very encouraging performance in such a short time which, we hope, will motivate us to reach our secondary goal of $1,070,142 and a new college record for a 50-year class!
