Latest word from stalwart Reunion Chairman Thomas J. "Poon" Harper is that the committees are pretty well set and the response to his pleas for help has been great. Keep it up. I'm sure he can use anyone who volunteers in any capacity.
You will be hearing more about the reunion in future DAM columns and, courtesy of Hon. Ed. Flint Ranney, in WWW. Let this be just one more reminder to Cy Field. We expect you to be there. In fact, we expect all classmates to be there.
Heard from Winston Bridge recently, wishing me well, saying he planned to make our reunion, and asking the whereabouts of Dick Hlavac. Last I heard, he was still in Kiwiland. If that's not so, whereabouts are you, Dick? You could well win the reunion award for making the longest trip. We'll look forward to seeing you there.
On a sadder note, Ken Libo '59 wrote to inform us of the death of his brother, Irwin Libo September 9. Ken writes, "A distinguished gourmand, an accomplished raconteur, and a connoisseur of horses, Irwin will be long remembered by family and friends for his infectious wit, unpretentious disposition, and forthright nature." He'll be missed indeed.
You have to send me more news, fellas. The birthdays are getting slimmer and slimmer. On the 13 th of this month was it a Friday? Alan Levenson burst upon the scene and shortly thereafter began considering the long trek to the Hanover Plain. Toward the end of the month, arriving almost in time for the New Year's Eve festivities, came Joel Ash, on the 30th, to be exact.
Tom Harper also sent news of our class scholarship students. Bruce Hepler graduated in June with a B-plus average as an English major. He played varsity football and was active in Chi Heorot fraternity.
Michele De Stefano graduated magna cum laude in a joint major of English and Sociology. She was a Presidential Scholar and won the Merklin Sociology Prize for having demonstrated a high degree of intellectual originality and vigor. She remained active in Sigma Delta sorority while working part-time at Collis Cafe.
Jim Nohl '94 is our latest scholarship student. A native of East Burke, Vt., and an avid skier Jim trained with the U.S. Ski Team before coming to Dartmouth. During his first year, Jim maintained an A-minus average. On that happy note, I leave you 'til next time.
