Dam editor Sean Piottner asks that we devote our January/February column to our special Dartmouth places, and reminiscences and anecdotes. Look at your photos and records, talk to classmates to refresh memories. Write them out and send them to me for DAM and Tithe.
Gloria (Mrs. Arnold) Hatch writes from Slingerlands, near Albany: "Our granddaughter Lisa Roth Hackman and husband Charles (both 91s) had a son May 3. Arnie would have been ecstatic! Proud grandparents are our daughter Pat (Smith '67) and Arthur Roth (Brown '61).
And also a letter from Peg Reitman (ex Mrs. Ray; he died 1976). Carter mentions they enjoy Tithe as "really informative," helping them to keep in touch with classmates and widows. It is your news to me that lets this process work.
Jim Conklings widow, Donna (they married in 1943; she's a grad of Oakland, California, High School) called from Mesa, Arizona, that she sent Bob Button a poem she wrote to be read at reunion. I await the text. Jim's career was in music, involved in founding or running Capitol and Columbia Records. He was considered "one of the industry's most prominent pioneers" by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Jim was a victim of Alzheimer's.
Art Funk sent the promotional brochure for the French edition of his The Allies and the Resistance (see April Tithe), "translated from the American ...not English." Congratulations, Art. Preserving history and your part in it.
