How quickly things change. When last we left him, JockCunningham was fleeing civil war in Ethiopia. Two years later, he was in the middle of a Trucksville Penn., stream vowing to love, honor and cherish Marcia Hoem. The bride was resplendent in an Orvis vest and Simms waders. The groom wore Patagonia. Despite inclement weather, the ceremony went off almost without a hitch. However, Jock nearly dropped Marcia's ring when he spotted several trout rising while a flock of Canada geese passed overhead.

Just think what Marcia has to look forward to. If she wants to know, she can ask DonO'Brien's wife, Caroline. OB took off to the Grand Cascapedia River on Quebec's Gasbay Peninsula for some fishing last August. Caroline was eight month's pregnant, but this was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. You can guess what happened next. At 2:00 a.m. Friday night, OB woke up, his tent shaking. "Don, Don, your wife's having a baby." OB rushed two hours to the nearest airstrip, hoping to catch the 6:00 a.m. flight to Montreal. It was not his lucky night. There were no weekend flights. So he spent the rest of the morning hooked up by phone to the delivery room. As they say in the commercials, "It's the next best thing to being there." New daughter Ellie and her older brother Donnie are doing fine, as is Caroline. OB was out fishing and could not be reached for comment.

If Michael Ovitz, head of Hollywood powerhouse Creative Artists Agency, is the man behind Hollywood's megadeals, then DavidO'Connor is the man behind the man behind the deals. Doc is an agent with Creative Artists. Many would consider his life glamorous. He matches scripts with talent and sells them to the studios. He represents the cream of Hollywood. But what price stardom? These days, he can hardly get through his pizza at Spago or breakfast at the Beverly Hills Hotel without somebody begging for a part or handing him a script.

Josh Katz now goes by Jean-Jacques Shapiro. Josh/Jean-Jacques sent a postcard from Telluride reporting that he had been on the road for six weeks. On his way back to Vermont, he hoped to visit Brian Boyer in Chicago and Ken Church in Ann Arbor. Josh/ Jean-Jacques is president of Trilateral Business Associates, a company he founded to service the consulting and translation needs of Japanese and American clients.

Long ago, Jeff Rutishauser shared with me his father's philosophy on government programs, "If you can't turn off the faucet, put your cup under the spigot." Rudi, a vice-president at General Electric Capital, has taken his father's advice to heart. Rudi spearheaded GE's purchase with the Bass Brothers of a $500 million portfolio of commercial real estate from the Resolution Trust Corporation. "Such a deal," says Rudi. "They're practically giving it away. They sell it to you and give you the money to pay for it."

Barbara Briggs is a real estate lawyer at Millbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCoy. She lives in Battery Park City on the southern tip of Manhattan, and she recently upgraded from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom.

Jamie Phillips, an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, is on loan to the special narcotics strike force unit of the United States Attorney for the southern district of New York. When asked for specifics, Jamie declined to comment citing the secrecy of the grand jury.

We always hope that from tragedy can come some good; and so it is that die James C. Hodgdon fund has been established in memory of our classmate. The fund, which is independent of the College's Alumni Fund, will be utilized in the next two years in the development of the new HIV laboratory at Dartmouth Medical School. Contributions should be made payable to Dartmouth Medical School, annotated "Hodgdon Fund," and sent to John Kindzerske, c/o Dartmouth Medical School Development Office, 7075 Butler, Hanover, NH 03755-3852.
