One of us too occasionally swims in the Karl Michael Pool, and being there brings back (gulp) 15-year-old memories of "boogie-ing" to Elton John's "Good-bye Yellowbrick Road" and Beach Boys tunes while lifeguarding. The second oldest record on the wall of the pool still belongs to one Ted Pollard. '77 lives on at Dartmouth.
Margaret Landsman called one day last fall. As a reporter for WEVO, the New Hampshire public radio station, she was interested in learning more about the Women In Science Project we've started for freshmen at Dartmouth this year. In addition to her radio work, Margaret writes articles on environmental issues and developments. She and her husband, Steve Winer, live in the Concord, N.H., area and have two small children. Margaret commented that she hadn't been much in the "mainstream" when she was at Dartmouth. Perhaps only a small number of our classmates truly felt "mainstream," with the rest of us groping our ways or sailing confidently along other paths. Maybe the perceived "mainstream" isn't a main stream at all, but a lot of individual rivulets, occasionally merging and then separating again.
Peter Beutel has taken up with a start-up: Pegasus Econometric Group, the first commodities research and portfolio management firm to provide market research and analysis while not relying on brokerage commissions for revenue. Peter, an oil industry analyst, heads Pegasus' energy division. (This item came to us courtesy of the New York Times. Sounds intriguing care to add anything, Peter?)
A Briggs and Morgan law firm press release announced that Andrew R. Kintzinger was recently elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, a national organization of lawyers active in the practice of public finance law. Maybe this helps explain the case of the missing class president... Drew?
Ready for this month's trivia quiz? Guess which '77 recently wrote, "Three kids are better than two, but only two can ski (so far). Daniel 8 keeps Mom company, Heather 4 is just learning, and Brenna 3/4 keeps the nursery bed warm. That's family skiing. I still break loose once in awhile, but it's not winter term anymore (ref. Frank McNamara). Family and career make it tougher. Wouldn't trade 'em in though (the kids that is). Like 'em. Life's great. Call or stop by if you're in the New York area. We're in Darien, Conn. Go Celts. Go Red Sox. Go Green."
Here's another: "Just checking in with our every-few-years new baby update. Our fourth (AND FINAL) child was born in September. We now have three girls and a boy, all under 8. That's enough. I spoke to the Cape Cod Dartmouth Club this week about our newest publication, Seniors Forum. We started it a year ago for the Cape's large and affluent retired population. Otherwise trying to maintain in the post-miracle Massachusetts."
Give up? The first writer was DougCogswell, the second Jeff Lyon.
What amazes us is that they still find time to drop a line. What's your excuse?
