Although most classmates by now have received copies of my minutes of the Class Executive Committee meeting in Philadelphia through Bert Rowley's latest class newsletter, I thought I'd recap a few key highlights:

As a standard practice, the class will have a mini-reunion in Hanover every Dartmouth Night weekend. We skipped this past fall, which we now believe was a mistake.

The class will stage a major mini-reunion, like the one in Washington, at least once between Hanover reunions. These major mini-reunions will be at various sites around the country, but not in Hanover.

The class will encourage regional mini-reunions, such as the ones that have been held in southern California, by offering support for mailings to all classmates within the given geographic area.

A number of good ideas for class projects, some close to fruition, were discussed. President Art Kelton is seeking a volunteer to coordinate these projects, as well as individual chairs for each project.

Our Alumni Fund goal is $163,000; former Alumni Fund Director Henry Eberhardt is our head agent.

The next meeting of the class executive committee is in Hanover during Class Officer's Weekend, April 26-27. If you'd like to attend, contact Art or one of the other officers for specifics about the location.

Those of you who can find one, take a look at the latest issue of the magazine of the Dartmouth Medical School. It's got MikeGazzaniga on the cover. He's really made a splash since returning to Hanover with his work on the organization of the human brain.

And then there was David Birney staring at me off the page of the Charlotte Observer. The paper reprinted a long piece by David Mills of the Washington Post on fan clubs, quoting people like Ruth K. Becht of Cranford, N.J., president of the David Birney International Fan Club: There s nothing phony about him. He is a genuine person. He cares very deeply about people." The cost for joining is $7.50 a year perhaps the class should take out a membership. The article goes on to say that Birney doesn't mind. They do show up around the country. And they seem to actually know your work, instead of just wanting the latest 8-by-10. You can read the full article by calling one of those reference services like VuText.

Offer a round of snaps for Mike Murphy, awarded the Morris Hershson Award of Merit by his professional society, the Association of Container Reconditioners, at its meeting in October at Boston's Marriott Copley Place. The award was presented at a special ceremony featuring five speakers, and came complete with a four-page program, including a fallpage biography of Mike. The biography primarily focused on all the elements of Mike's service to the association, including as its chairman from 1986-88. "This award did give me a great deal of satisfaction as it represents a judgement by my peers in the industry, writes Mike. He goes on to note that he is still smarting from his son's decision to choose Yale over Dartmouth.
