Well, hello again. Even with two of us to divide and conquer the column, a hiatus was unavoidable. Feels like we never left, though. Separate business trips to California for each of us during the winter months left us jet-lagged but rejuvenated, in part because we got to see Bob Rennicks (still in Oakland, finishing his Ph.D. at Berkeley, looking into teaching positions in the Bay Area, and a connoisseur of at least one worthy micro-brew-ery—no, I'm keeping it secret) and EdyUllman (still fighting fires out of Sebastopol, tending cattle Bert, Spike, and Narsai, and a connoisseur of a great breakfast spot in Rohnert Park also a secret).

Edy rendezvoused with Kathy Phillips and Cathy Burnweit in Florida this winter. Kathy is a psychiatrist, weekend commuting between her home in Lyme, N.H., and Boston, where she is a Harvard Fellow. Cathy is a pediatric surgeon and married to geologist Eric Aserlind, with whom she shares the joys (we imagine!) of Bradley 3 1/2, and Alexandra 1.

Carolyn Salafia was named Young Clinical Scientist of the Year by the National Association of Clinical Scientists as a result of her studies of the placenta and its role in causing maternal, fetal, and neonatal diseases. A pathologist, Carolyn works out of the Department of Laboratory Medicine in Danbury, Conn.

Mike Choukas became executive vice president for strategy and business development at Dun and Bradstreet Software Corp. in December. Susan Dentzer was awarded a U.S. Japan Leadership Program Fellowship by the Japan Society for a year's study and research in Japan. (Does it come with funds for assistants? Like a family of four, for instance?) Susan is presently senior writer and chief economic correspondent for US News and World Report.

Cathy Cook Holmstrom writes of life in San Diego with husband Garry: "We are currendy in S.D. while Garry finishes his tour as Captain of the U.S.S. Chandler. In April we will head east to D.C. and then on to Boston, where Garry will spend one year at Harvard. We were in Seattle for 15 months while the Chandler went through an overhaul; we fell in love with Seatde and hope to return there someday. When not packing or unpacking, I'm usually scraping peanut butter off the floor and walls and chasing after Anders, Charlie, and Isaac. Mealtimes with the boys often bring back nostalgic memories of Thayer food fights."

Now, come on, we never did that, did we?
