IN THOSE DAYS, IT WAS ALL DOWNHILL FROM THERE

DURING THE 1930s there was actually 11 more opportunity for downhill skiing in Hanover than there is today-which was a good thing, since the Skiway was not in operation. A 1,150-foot rope tow ran up Mel Adams (now called Oak) Hill near Starrs Pond. Longest downhill run: Moose Mountain Trail, length 1.3 miles. For travellers, the best skiing was at Cannon Mountain, whose aerial tramway opened in 1938.

Before interstates, we skied closeto home.
