It was a pleasure to see Professor Richard Morrill in Hanover at the mini-reunion in October. Dick is a professor of geography at the University of Washington in Seattle and spent the fall term as a visiting professor at Dartmouth teaching one course in geography and writing a book. Regional planning and urban and population studies are his specialties. This is his first visit to Hanover since graduation, and he finds the contrast between his urban campus in Seattle and Dartmouth quite striking. Dick and his wife, Joanne, have three grown children. He did his graduate work at the University and has lived in that area ever since.

Newsletter Editor Captain John Dinan has been put to sea, serving as medical officer on the U.S.S. Saratoga. If any of us wondered why John returned to the navy after all these years, his current cruise is the explanation, with visits to the Caribbean, Norway, and the Mediterranean prior to returning to the U.S. later in the year.

Ryutaro Shindo sends word from Kyoto, Japan's old capital, that he and his wife hosted President Freedman and his party during a three-day visit to the Kyoto area last May. Taro was very pleased to have entertained the visitors in his home for an evening.

Two classmates have recently been honored for distinguished service. Dr. James F. Morrissey of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., who has an orthopedic surgical practice in Yonkers, N.Y., was feted at a dinner dance celebrating the completion of the new emergency room at St. Joseph's Medical Center, a three-year project which he supported. And Class Head Agent Brooks Parker received the Raymond J. Rasenberger '49 Award from the 1991 Dartmouth Alumni Fund for outstanding non-reunion-year achievement.

A recent note from Lyn Brook indicates a busy schedule is in store for him. He has been elected chairman of the board of Kendal at Hanover, a retirement community just north of town on Lyme Road. Lyn is a director of the Kendal Corporation, the parent company in Philadelphia. He has also been elected chairman of the board of Peirce Junior College and will join the board of Rotary International later this year. He and Claudie attended the wedding of Julie Parker, daughter of Gail and Brooks, this past summer and stayed with Pete and BettyBuhler while in Boston. This fall the Brocks visited Claudie's brother and family in Morocco, which they found to be a wonderful place, "vibrant, exciting, colorful, and warm."

R. Thomas Schoonmaker has been appointed to the Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's Citizen Advisory Committee. Tom is president of R.T. Schoonmaker Inc., a transportation consulting firm, and also serves on the boards of Eclipse Management Consultant Group and Center in the Park, a senior center in German town, Penn.
