Classmates and wives attending our Harvard weekend mini-reunion were treated to classic New England weather, traditional Dartmouth Night events, and an exciting and ultimately victorious football game. Friday night activities included the parade featuring about ten stalwarts and our class banner, a class reception at Blunt hosted by the Alexanders, and the 1997 bonfire on a mild and moonlit night. The next day saw the class executive committee meeting, two 1955 tables at the alumni pregame luncheon, the game, and a dinner for 46 of us at the Sheraton. The rains came immediately following the game, and by Sunday morning there were several inches of snow on the ground, a fitting end to a wonderful weekend.
A number of classmates I had not seen in a long time were in Hanover during the weekend. Al Pianca joined us at the Blunt reception, and Ward Rowley, who has recently moved to New London from New jersey, was with the class group at the bonfire. Ted andGert Ely, Tom and Susan Hughson, Frankand Joan Tepper, and Ken and KathrynLundstrom were there as well. Tom is still running the family insurance business in Oneonta, N.Y., and he and Susan find time in the summer to enjoy their cottage on nearby Otsego Lake. Frank and Joan were overheard arranging to meet Dick and MillieBueschel in Bermuda this winter.
I managed to pick up a number of newsworthy items while in Hanover. Skip Hance officially retired from his position as vice president of development and alumni affairs at the College on October 31. Also retiring this fall was Ace Hall after a long career with General Dynamics. Ace and Dorothy are building a home at Harbour Ridge, Fla., a development heavily infested with Dartmouth alumni. Appropriately the Halls have lot number 55, next to Charlie Morrison '54! Brooksand Gail Parker became the proud grandparents of a grandson born during the summer. Jack Doyle, who retired from KPMG Peat Marwick recently, is now involved in the rehabilitation of the Greater Boston Bank in Brighton, where he serves as president and CEO.
The class executive committee meeting took place at the Hanover Inn on Saturday morning and was led by President BobFanger. The minutes of the meeting were published in a recent class newsletter. Among the highlights, Pete Thompson reported that the class gift, allocated according to the formula agreed upon at last year's meeting, provided $3,190 for the Hood Museum and $2,375 for the Athletic Sponsor Program. Pete also announced that the Class of 1955 Award recipient this year was John French. John was honored for his work on environmental issues as an attorney, his community service in the New York area, and his many activities in serving the College and our class. He received an inscribed Dartmouth plate. As our 40th Reunion chair, John says that planning is well underway for the event, which is scheduled for June 12-15, 1995. Head Agent Brooks Parker announced that Alice DeLana has agreed to serve as class memorial gift chair, and that Joe Mathewson will chair the 40th Reunion gift campaign.
