Beyond the Hill

JUST FOUR YEARS OUT OF COLLEGE, Roll Call reporter (and former DAM intern) Tim Burger '88 has already staked a firm reputation on the Hill as an aggressive reporter. Earlier this year he broke the House banking scandal with a story that threatens nearly a hundred Congressional careers. Burger was tipped off to the scandal when he read a 1990 General Accounting Office report that mentioned 8,331 checks that had been returned to the House bank. While he says he had been aware of such improprieties in the past, Burger did not foresee the scope or farranging implications of the Congressional check-bouncing. "It was an easy, sexy story that got snapped up by the media under a climate of public mistrust," he says modestly.
