On December 12 Yank Price hosted an elegant luncheon in the Wheelock Room of the Hanover Inn. The total attendance was 38, including wives and guests. Ed Reich spent a very exciting week planning his mother's 100th birthday celebration. It was attended by son Bob '68, the new Secretary of Labor, and a congratulatory letter from President Clinton was read.
Bud Cahoon, an attorney for 50 years, recently received the Nickerson Society's award for his lifelong service to the people of Harwich Port on Cape Cod. At various times he has been a trustee of the hospital, the church, the yacht club, the playhouse, and the bank, as well as representative to the Massachusetts General Court.
Hunt Harrison still shoots in the nineties and notes that three of his golfing partners have had heart bypasses, and another is a stroke victim. Not quite in the class of WileyHubbell, who shoots his age, or Bucks Weil, who managed to make 60 (for nine holes) down in Alabama. Cramp Carrick from Naples, Fla., reports that his golf game is along the ground, not under, which he claims is a favorable sign. Will Gahagan is among a relatively few well-preserved athletes still competing in tennis tournaments throughout the U.S. and winning a number of single and doubles matches.
Harriet and Lou Bookheim traveled to Alaska and visited a community north of the Arctic Circle inhabited by Inupiats. SamReese planned to spend the holidays visiting family members all over North America. JoeSholkin recently paid a visit to his son-in-law, who was recuperating from a septuple bypass. Louise and Maury Rapf gave up their New York City apartment to become permanent residents of Hanover, where Maury still teaches film studies. Charlie Sewall is one of the few able to withstand chemo treatment twice a week.
The sad news is that over the past year or so we have lost Fred Axelrod, Carl Crane, Cush Cushman, Joe Fellows, Charlie French, Harry Harlor, Bill Harwick, Ernie Hedler, Frank Hermes, How Kaiser, Dick Kenny, Bob Morse, Bill Mumler, Boyd Rogers, Roy Ruether, Charlie Shaw, Jim Stearnes, and Barney Tomlinson.
