Time to get back to work. For the last two columns, you've been treated to accounts of the lives of '45 families in Northern California, written by ArtPounds with the help of Art Nichols and TedMcCrum. A guest scribe is a good idea, and I already have my eye on one in the northeasternmost part of the U.S. for 1993. Stay tuned.

Our very successful mini-reunion was held October 16-18. Once again Bob Aldom received a standing ovation for his superb arrangements. Ninety-three people participated. Sitting in the stands (finally near the 45-yard line) on a beautiful autumn day, with the sun on the foliage gracing Balch Hill, was just as you always remembered it. If you missed this one, it was your loss. Mark your '93 calendar now: October 9; the football game will be with UNH. (Surely Charlie Holt will attend.)

Don Cole proudly announced that with Tom Yates, John MacDonald, John White, and himself attending the monthly Dartmouth luncheons in Portland, Maine, '45 has as many or more revelers than some of the older classes, like '39. (If they could rope in Gene Pinney, they'd win hands down.)

From Florida Ted Jenks reports, "Have had a few golf outings with that Mt. Dora devil, Chad Ramsdell. He's still tough. I live in nearby Apopka at Errol C.C., so expect to challenge Chad again. We were in the Naval Air Corps at Corpus Christie together, mostly playing cribbage before we got our wings and new orders."

It would seem Peter Held has itchy feet. Last year he completed a trip down the Nile, then to Jordan for a horseback ride to Petra, and a week in London for R&R. He still goes to Antigua, Guatemala, to relax. He's had the house for 20 years now, and he can also be found working on an old farm house in Woodstock, N.Y., doing as much gardening as possible. His HQ is still West 77th St. in Manhattan, and he is retired after 27 years with IBM. (Good timing!)

Hope things are looking up for PaulSanborne. In January 1990 he had stroke during a triple-bypass operation, and then a second stroke after he got home. He can walk, with a brace, he says, but "my left arm and hand are no good." Thanks for your postcard, Paul; you were good to write. '45 wishes you well. Send a note to Paul at 112 St. Clair Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762.

Dora and Frank Aldrich had a delightful Christmas dinner in Waterville Valley, Maine, at the home of Jane Ashton Messenger (widow of Tom Ashton). He wrote: "Had the feeling Bookie was smiling down on us from on high."

Thought for the month: "Automation is the process that gets all the work done while you just sit there. When you were younger, this process was called mother."
