The snow-and-cold season is really upon us here in New England and although the calendar says the days are getting longer, Yours Truly, at least, finds himself confronted with the problem of baby-sitting vs. skiing. Having reconsidered the problem, we have decided that four months is a little young to start our daughter on skis. Perhaps then the answer is to talk John Meek into incorporating a nursery with the new Holt's Ledge ski area. But" be that as it may, there are other considerations here. For example, your executive committee plans to get together late this winter or early this spring and, among other topics, we will discuss our forthcoming reunion in June of 1957. Admittedly only preliminary ground work can be laid at this time, but in the next month or so, I would welcome any suggestions pertaining to that topic or others which any of you would care to send along. But now, on with...
WHAT'S NEW WITH '52 ... According to our reporter in Hanover there were several members of the class in the area during the last month or so, including: Mr. and Mrs.Denny Brown? Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smuckler,Chuck Benisch and Phil Benton. There were others who took to the slopes, but during the holiday seasons, although it was as cold as hell frozen over, there was little more than an ice-packed base to ski on.
It has been recently brought to my attention that a classmate of ours was honored by the British Government last November, in Washington. He is Bill Guggisberg. Bill was made a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for "heroic and daring deeds" while .serving with the United Nations forces in Korea. The insignia of that order was presented by Sir Roger Makirns, British Ambassador to the United States. Bill served as a member of the American Engineers Group. Currently he is associated with American Metal Company in Manhattan and is married to the former Nancy Strohm. They have two children: Marilyn, 2½ years, and Billy, 7 months. I speak for the entire class when I say, "Congratulations, Bill."
FROM THE LETTER FILE ... Bubs Richardson was sporting an experts medal for the Mi when last heard from at Ford Ord in California. He is currently studying Army administration and personnel work at a clerk typist school and says that he would rather be in Portland, Ore., practicing law. RonnieScott is reported to be still flying jet fighters for the Navy in the Far East; and Ed Sumner is studying music at Union Theological Seminary. Bill and Judy Breed can be found in the Ocean Avenue area of Marblehead, Mass., where they reside with their 4-months-old daughter, Debora. Bill is working with the Eastern Sales Branch of the Simonds Saw Company. Marcel Durot reports that he is working for the Look Sharp! Feel Sharp! and Be Sharp! people in Boston. He offers no complaints, due in the main to the fact that his wife Maureen presented him with a son late last September. He also reports that Don MacLeod is in the Mediterranean with the Navy and that Ed Finerty is helping to plug the gap not covered by the Texas Tower off Cape Cod by cruising the area on his radar picket destroyer out of Newport. I stand corrected on a recent item concerning Dort Bigg which appeared in this column several months ago. He can be located in Concord, N. H., and during business hours can be reached at the offices of Orr & Reno. JohnBarto can also be found at the same business address. It is reported that one Roy Wikstrom is now an associate of the Hardware City Cooperative Association of New Britain, Conn. Aside from the insurance business, Roy finds himself well occupied, especially since the birth of his second daughter on June 19 last year.
TROTHS AND BETROTHS There are just two nuptial notices at this writing, one of which is long overdue. While details are lacking, Paul Pontius exchanged vows with Carol Reed of Lancaster, Pa., last July 23. The second wedding was that of George Littlehales, who was married to Elaine Wahlstad on November 12, at the First Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach, Fla. Elaine is a graduate of Colby Junior College. George recently completed a tour of active duty as a Naval aviator. They will make their home in Washington, D. C. As for the engagement side of the picture, I have several announcements which date back to last fall. John McNary and Winifred Lillibridge announced their intentions last September. John's fiancee is a graduate of the Salem Hospital School of Nursing. John has recently completed a tour of duty as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. During that same month, Bob Weinig and Mary Mauritz announced their engagement. Mary is a graduate of New Trier High School and Wheaton College. Bob is a graduate of Tuck School. They plan a spring wedding. Fred Heath and Dolores Del Rio announced their engagement last October. Fred's fiancee attended Mamaroneck High School and Georgetown Visitation Convent and is now with Courtesy Associates in Washington, D. C. Fred is currently stationed aboard the USS Tidewater at- Norfolk, Va. Bob Porges and Sarah Berman announced their engagement recently. Sarah is currently studying at Barnard College in New York. Bob now sports an M.D. after his name, having recently graduated from the New York College of Medicine.
Enough said tor this writing, as this is overdue at the printer's already. However, I can use any news that any of you want to send along, so keep it coming! See you next month.
