Word has been received that Steven Weiner has finalized his retirement. Steve and wife Marilyn will leave Marina Del Rey, Calif., and are presently completing a refitting of their 45-foot cutter Pacific Express for a South Pacific retirement cruise. Steve also reports the publication of his second Stephen Blessing murder mystery, entitled AvengingAngel. Should we now anticipate a forthcom- ing second Tales of the South Pacific?

The second-place finish by Dartmouth grad Bob Kempainen '88 in last fall's New York City Marathon brings back memories of the running exploits of our own Tom Laris, who in his best showing finished second in the 1967 Boston Marathon. We trust that Tom, wife Alexia, and their Palo Alto home were spared the ravages of the California earthquake.

Wouter Goedkoop has also had some successful athletic exploits recently. Walt, returning to his native Europe to compete in the World Senior Rowing Competition in Vienna, Austria, finished fifth overall in the four-man competition. Wouter and Hanneke joined us at our 30th after celebrating son Daan's graduation from Dartmouth. The proud parents hope to continue their frequent visits to Hanover now that Daan is attending Thayer School. Wouter continues to manage Airship Management Services, the Greenwich, Conn.,-based operator of blimps which leases advertising space to companies for sporting and special events.

Wouter brought us to date on good buddies Frederic Cook and Warren Loomis. Fred continues his New York City compensation- consulting business under the name Frederic W. Cook Cos. Inc. Zogs continues his health-care software specialty for Logic Associates Inc. in White River Junction while enjoying the good living of the Upper Valley. Walt, Fred, and Zogs have been getting togeth- er every year for a Winter Sports reunion at Lake Placid, N.Y. Too cold this year!

Kudos to Ross Burkhardt, our class author supreme, for his re-election to a second term as Teacher Trustee for the East/South Region of the National Middle School Association. Ross continues as co-author of the column "Teachers on Teaching NMSA." He is also founder and past president of the New York State Middle School Association. Our best to Ross and wife Diane and thanks for the outstanding job Ross did recording the experiences and reflection of so many '62s in MenOur Age. We highly recommend this marvelous book to '62s and all the Dartmouth family.

On a somber note, we have received news of the untimely passing of Peter W. Wright on December 22. On behalf of the class we extend our heartfelt condolences to Peter's wife, Kathy, their children Peter, Richard, and Caroline, Peter's grown sons Benjamin and Jacob, and his parents. Dr. Wright's obituary will appear in a later issue.
