We find it extraordinarily difficult to properly describe the participation by members of the Great Class of 1935 in Dartmouth's "Gifts to the World." On a genetic basis alone we have several hundred long and successful marriages responsible for an untold number of children who in turn have produced hundreds of our grandchildren followed by many great-grandchildren. There is not sufficient space in this column to mention the individual achievements of many members of the class. Suffice it to say that we are enormously proud of those who have reached pinnacles in their professional, business, academic, or political lives. But we are even prouder of our progeny, whether or not they have yet become wellknown.
Rather than describe the spectacular achievements of many members of the class, we would like to recognize the significant contributions of tire class as a whole to the College. For instance, at the graduation ceremony during our 50th Reunion, we were the first class ever to walk down the aisle with our wives, and apparently this tradition has continued ever since. While we were still in college we persuaded President Hopkins to reinstate the Green Key Prom after a lapse of several years due to some rather uncouth behavior by one of the Preceeding classes. Unfortunately, during our senior year we were responsible for killing the traditional Old Timers Day. We behaved so badly in a variety of ways, including driving across the campus, getting arrested, etc., that this special celebration was never reinstated.
As a class, however, we are one of the few in the long history of the College to have contributed two outstanding classmates to the Board of Trustees, to wit Ralph Lazarus (1968-1982) and David P. Smith (1971-1981). We also congratulate Don Radasch for being one of the first group of eight to be inducted as Honorary Wearers of the Green. This is a new and special category honoring those who fully appreciate the role of athletics at the College and who give generously of their time and resources to keep the athletic programs vibrant, healthy, and successful.
