Since it is April, and we are all celebrating the IRS's annual rite of spring, I thought that a few words about money matters would be in order. First, the response of' 64 donors to Alumni Fund Chairman Sandy McGinnis and Head Agent Steve Blecher's call to rally "Team '64" has been very strong. Spearheaded by 1769 Society donors and other leadership givers, the class has made pledges totaling more than $150,000, and appears capable of setting a new nonreunion-year record with total contributions in excess of $200,000. Remember, this year the campaign closes June 30 on a cash-in basis, and Steve and Sandy are hopeful that each classmate will contribute to proving once again that 1964 is in a class by itself! This year more than 80 classmates are serving as class agents. Please respond favorably when they call.
The second financial matter involves class dues. As you are probably aware, the majority of the dues money goes to pay for the Alumni Magazine and the class newsletters, with the remaining balance going towards administering of class activities. Treasurer Jim Hughes reports that prior to the final dues solicitation that was mailed in February, only 40 percent of the class had sent in their dues. This is well below the class goal of 60 percent and is even below the College average. So, if you have not already done so, please mail in your check. If by some chance you have misplaced the dues solicitation, please give me a call, and I will see that you get another one. Remember, your class officers and executive
committee are working hard to plan an enjoyable and rewarding 35 th Reunion experience, and we need your support.
Elsewhere in this special issue be sure to read about classmates Dick Couch and Dave Shipler who have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to plasma-torch cutting technology and literature, respectively.
Also be sure to read this column in the May issue. Featured will be those classmates who lived in Wheeler Hall during their freshman year. This will be the first of a series of columns focusing on classmates who lived in different dorms during 1960-1961. You will be receiving a questionnaire several months prior to publication of your dorm's column, and your prompt response will be the key to the success of this effort to include some news about each member of the class between now and our 35th Reunion.
